Ash vs. Zombies… In the Marvel U!

Ash vs. Marvel ZombiesAfter the smash success of the Marvel Zombies mini, Marvel’s going back to the well TWICE next year! First, Kirkman’s going to be writing a sequel mini – though other reports have it as a prequel one-shot. It’s probably a sequel though, as the OTHER mini is a prequel.

So what’s this prequel mini that’s got people talking? Well someway, somehow the infamous Ash gets to take a break from fighting the Army of Darkness… so he can fight an army of Marvel Zombies! Lucky guy, huh? As you can see in the image, he’ll be up to his usual zombie-wrecking chores, but since it’s a prequel, he’s also going to have some uninfected heroes on his side. For a while anyway. All in all, next year sounds like a good year for zombies in Marvel – or bad, for the ones that get stuck facing Ash.

What more can be said about this issue? It’s not like we haven’t talked about it before. And tomorrow, it’s finally here! To reiterate – We launch headlong into the last leg of Planet Hulk, an excellent and exciting story that you need to be reading already, and we also get a Civil War connection in the backup story drawn by the awesome Gary Frank. AND, there are reprints. Honestly, God only knows which issues are being reprinted in this now though – Reports are saying it’s only #152 and #300 getting reprinted. I’ve given up on believing what’s being said about that part – when the book’s in my hands, that’s when I’ll know for sure.

That said, enjoy the preview pages, now with text!

Halo Movie Delayed

invisohalo.jpgA press release from Peter Jackson’s Wingnut films confirms what may have been obvious to all after the studio fall out 2 weeks ago.

As was previously confirmed, we deeply regret that both Universal and Fox did not choose to move forward with financing the Halo film under the original terms of the agreement. At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen. We are fully supportive of Director Neill Blomkamp’s vision of the film. Neill is a tremendously gifted filmmaker and his preliminary work on Halo is truly awe-inspiring. While it will undoubtedly take a little longer for Halo to reach the big screen, we are confident that the final feature film will be well worth the wait.

Ain’t It Cool’s Quint had some nice things to say, being one of the few people who has seen the pre-production work on Halo.

Some sites are touting this as a cancellation but the text of the release still implies the movie is on, just not on for a release any time soon.

Another Street Fighter Movie

chun-li.jpgIf at first you don’t succeed: fail, fail again.

12 years after Universal dropped the Jean Claude Van Damme “Street Fighter” onto an unsuspecting populus, Capcom has given motion picture rights to Hyde Park Entertainment. The new live action movie will focus on Chun Li, but the story is not being mentioned at this time. Justin Marks has been tapped to write the script, who also wrote 2003’s “The Stranger” starring powet.tv fave Xander Berkeley.

There’s no shortage of animated Street Fighter product, and UDON keeps comics on shelves, but every time someone tries to dress up like these characters, it looks corny.

They’re aiming for a 2008 release, in time for the 20th Anniversary of the series. Will this movie be any good? Hard to say. I mean, the first Street Fighter game was pretty dismal too, but we all know Street Fighter II.

PS3 Line Wait

No one on Powet staff is getting one, and we’ve all got better things to do than talk to anyone who is. But the PS3 pre-order lines are news, and Screw Attack sent Stuttering Craig down to a Toys R Us to taunt the shirtless guy in a lawnchair waiting to spend his $600.

Toy Biz cancels remaining Marvel products for 2006 outside of United States (UPDATE!)

Marvel LegendsA while ago I posted a note saying that Toy Biz was cancelling distribution overseas of the rest of their product lines for the year. It seems this is not as true as it first appeared. Jesse Falcon of Toy Biz addressed the question in a Q&A thread on Fwooshnet.com, the same site that I first got the news from.

Key quote from the thread:

I understand that Toy Biz has decided not to ship out the newer ML series’ to overseas, and that this is due to the licensing agreement, and that Hasbro’s “time” begins from the start of January next year. However, you’ve also mentioned before that there’s a “grace period” of sorts (ie those toys don’t have to be taken off the shelves immediately after the end of december 06). So, by that reasoning why isn’t the newer ML series’ going to reach us overseas collectors and consumers? A shame, too- seeing that Christmas is coming up and all that.
– not true they will be released but in smaller numbers.

Good news to Marvel fans around the world!

Lawnmower Racing Mania 2007

lrm2007_xbox_box_front_160.jpgFrom the “people will buy anything” file we bring you a video game about guys who ride lawnmowers.

Not to be confused with the mid-90’s video game “The Lawnmower Man” based on the movie of the same name, this is a simulation where you race lawnmowers. Not only that, but it’s officially sanctioned by the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association.

I can barely contain myself thinking about this game, so I’ll let this passage from the website describe it:

What happens when you turn a household chore into the wildest mowtorsport to hit the nation in years? Grab your helmet, bore out your cylinders and get ready for the ultimate MOWdown!

Lawnmower racing is sweeping the country in a grass-roots movement that brings all the excitement of open wheel racing to a dirt-in-your-face, spine-jarring new level.

* Race against legends like Bobby Cleveland, George Herrin, Mr. Mowjangles and Sodzilla.
* STA-BIL Circuit, Free Mowin’ and multiplayer modes.
* Unlockable upgrades including engines, chassis, jerseys and more!
* Learn more about real lawnmower racing in the “Mowpedia.”

It’ll be available this tuesday for XBOX and PC for only $19.99, making this an ideal future candidate for the $20 GOTW.
