Monday Mashup: Batman Vs…

Courtesy: Shortpacked!Batman doesn’t have many friends. I mean, he’s in the Justice League and he teams up with a new costumed bozo every week on Cartoon Network, but that doesn’t mean any of these guys are close.

So Batman sometimes has to be the snot out of allies. This happens in official books and toons a lot, but when you open it up to the world of fan films, edits, and satire, you’ll get some good stuff.

Click after the jump to see 4 films of Batman fighting another hero, monsters, a holiday, and himself.

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army Trailer

Its easy to forget with Iron Man and Batman hype running full steam that Hellboy is coming back. Or at least it was easy until this trailer hit. The first Hellboy was a class-A super hero flick and I expect nothing less. In fact I think the second will be even better now that director Guillermo Del Toro has the incredible Pan’s Labyrinth to his credit.

If you want to see more Hi-Res options for the trailer, check out IGN.

Hellboy: Darkness Calls

Hellboy: Darkness CallsHellboy: Darkness Calls #1 (of 6)
written (and covers) by Mike Mignola, art by Duncan Fegredo

No, I didn’t forget that World War Hulk kicks off this week. The prologue book hitting shelves tomorrow is written by World War Hulk: Prologue: WorldbreakerPeter David and will be drawn by John Romita Jr. Those two are always awesome, and just in case you need proof, just check the image on the right. Now, I’m confident the decision of whether or not you’ll be buying this thing has already been made, so let’s get back to Hellboy.

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army Details

hellboy.jpg
Hellboy was one of the best superhero movies in recent years, and cerainly deserves a quicker follow up than its taking. The original came out in 2004, the sequel is now due August 1, 2008. They had to jump ships from Sony to Universal in the process, but Hellboy should feel at home given the massive Universal monster movie archives.

SuperheroFlix has some details released by Universal on the movie. The immediate good news is the return of the principal cast and director Guillermo del Toro, working from a story by del Toro and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

Hellboy, if you don’t know, is based on a Dark Horse comic. He’s a demon from Hell, summoned by the Nazis as a baby, but recruited into work for the US as a paranormal investigator. He files down his gigantic horns to stumps, eats immense amounts of food, has a giant revolver in his left hand, and a giant fist on his right.

Filming should begin in May on location in Budapest.

Third Hellboy Animated Gets Title – The Phantom Claw

Lobster JohnsonThe third (and final?) Hellboy Animated movie hasn’t been officially greenlit yet, but big man Tad Stones (what a manly name! – Er, I mean, the supervising director and co-writer on the previous two movies) decided to start talking about it on the Hellboy Animated blog. The blog post is largely about the process of deciding on and planning the story when it comes to creating these movies. Over the course of the discussion he gives us this delightful quote: “If Sword of Storms was the folklore side of Hellboy, Blood and Iron the vampire/Hammer Films side then The Phantom Claw is the mad scientist/weird technology aspect of Hellboy stories.”

He also shares the name The Phantom Claw, and he discusses Mike Mignola’s suggestion to use Lobster Johnson (see image to the left) in the movie. I’m guessing “The Phantom Claw” refers to him. (Please note: Lobster Johnson is not an actual lobster, nor does he have actual claws.)

EDIT: Its also worth noting that the second Hellboy installment, Blood and Iron, will air on Cartoon Network this Saturday at 7 PM EST.
