Capcom was releasing some major teasers at their Gamer’s Day event yesterday, including a new Bionic Commando, and announced that their stellar Xbox 360 game Lost Planet would come to PS3 next year with all the downloadable content on disc.
But the announcement that takes the cake is Street Fighter IV. Its been a long time since Capcom made a new 2D fighter, and the last time the Street Fighter crew appeared was on the less than great Neo Geo game SVC Chaos.

But now we have A New Beginning, and a teaser trailer to go with it.

We don’t know who is making it, what system it will be for, or even if it will be a true 2D fighter, but if its not, why bother? Capcom knows their hardcore audience is still playing Alpha 2 Gold and 3rd Strike like they’re new games, so it makes the most sense to keep the legacy in tact. I hope for a limited arcade release followed by versions on every console that can run it. HD, 16×9, all that stuff.

Okay, I realize I shouldn’t like this game as much as I do, but in spite of its over emphasis on the female form, slightly sluggish yet simple play control, and lack of variety in its play modes, it can actually become a bit enjoyable if you don’t expect much from it. Developed by Yuke’s Future Media Creators (you know them from the Smackdown games) and published by Konami (you know them from Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, Contra, and dozens of other great franchises), RRXX is a sequel to 2004’s Rumble Roses, a Playstation 2 wrestling game. The game’s big hook is that it features an all-female cast. Each of them scantily clad to boot. This game clearly isn’t for everyone.

Even though this game has been overshadowed by its sequels three times over, Soul Edge was and still is a revolutionary title in the fighting genre. A 3-d fighter with weapons based gameplay, Namco’s classic took the genre to new heights. Although this certainly wasn’t the first fighting game to feature weapons, (SNK’s Samurai Showdown and Sony’s Battle Arena Toshinden having been released prior) it made the weapon deeper and more fluid rather than simply having sword slashes as a substitute for punches and kicks. The game also had a deep storyline taking place in the 16th century featuring a diverse cast of warriors. Later games in the series would expand on the plot even further, adding new characters and plot twists. The home version of the game wasn’t bad either. As a matter of fact, the Playstation version of the game, renamed Soul Blade, featured new playable characters, new game modes, and other cool extras. Along with Namco’s Tekken 2, Soul Blade was one of the few arcade-to-home conversions at the time that managed to surpass the original arcade game it was based on.

Thoughts arrive like butterflies, yeah

Here’s a video of Pearl Jam’s “Even Flow” in Guitar Hero III. It amazes me how these games manage to pack more notes that are required to play it on an actual guitar, but they gotta add something for the higher difficulty levels! More videos at Gametrailers, including PAT BENATAR.
Nathan Smart tells me that the official Xbox 360 Magazine contains a demo with several songs and should be on newsstands soon. With GHIII less than 2 weeks away, its a short term stop gap to rock, but 360 owners with 10 bucks to blow on a demo magazine should be pleased.

About 6 months ago, I posted a video here called Haloid, which features a unique fight between two very well known video game characters. The creator, Monty Oum, has posted a follow up, this time mashing together the ladies of Dead Or Alive and Final Fantasy. Pure fan service, but the CG work and fight choreography is as good if not better than last time. Best of all, he plans on doing more chapters. Amazing its all done by one man. As I said before: Someone needs to give this guy a job now.

It’s EA buyout time! Earlier today Electronic Arts Inc. issued a press release stating their plans to purchase VG Holding Corp., owners of both BioWare Corp. & Pandemic Studios. BioWare is, of course, known for both the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the upcoming Mass Effect for the Xbox 360. Pandemic Studios are the brains behind the Destroy All Humans! and Mercenaries series. Yahoo! Finance has all the gory, monetary details here.

Some new images and video of Mario Kart for the Wii have been released. Check them out on Jeux France. The video shows some very impressive half pipe stunts and we can see motorcycles as new driveable vehicles!
