$20 Game of the Week: Green Everyday Special Part One

This week as you know, is Thanksgiving. The day after of course, is Black Friday. So the day after you spend a day being thankful for the things you got, you’ll no doubt spend cash on things you don’t need. Many of you however will loathe this event, either because you wish to show solidarity with the retail worker strikers, you’re low on cash, or you wish to avoid the insanity of the frenzied crowds. Even so, you’ll be envious of the deals that you could be cashing in on. Fear not, ya boys at Powet got your back. We got two editions of $20 GOTW coming this week. These games, as always are either at or below the $20 mark year round, so there is no need to get up early, stand in line, or fight through crowds. Matter of fact, you can cash in on them now. These games are downloadable and/or can be ordered from all major online retailers, so there is no need to leave the house. I’m gonna call this, Green Everyday. You’re welcome by the way.

$20 Game of the Week: Democracy 2 (PC)

This past week saw the end of one of the most brutal election seasons in recent history. Whether you voted for Barry-O or Mittens, one thing is for sure, you’ll be thankful for no more campaign ads. There are quite a few games that depict the campaign trail i(n fact, I looked at one late last year). However, how not too many games depict what happens after you step into the Oval Office, and I don’t mean city builders like Tropico and SimCity either. Rather, how many games let you control every aspect of your nation’s policies, from welfare to foreign aid? Cliff Harris/Positech Game’s Democracy 2 is one of the few games that lets players do just that.

$20 Game of the Week: Devil’s Attorney (IOS, Android)

$20 Game of the Week: Cryostasis – The Sleep of Reason (PC)

This is the fourth and final of our special series of horror-related $20GOTW for the month of October.

Developed by Ukrainian developer Action Forms, Cryostasis is a unique (if flawed) first person psychological horror game. Stepping into the shoes of Russian meteorologist Alexander Nesterov as you explore the remains of a shipwrecked nuclear ship as you try to figure out what happened to the crew, many of whom having turned into mindless beasts. With his ‘Mental Echo’ ability, you can enter the memories of the crew members, figure out what happened to them, and even try to change their fate. The game takes place in the North Pole, so naturally, you will be cold. The warmth will serve as your life meter, so you’ll have to find sources of heat to stay alive. Cryostasis moves along at a slow and linear pace, although the story is compelling for anyone who sticks with it. As Lost Planet showed players, the icy north cam be a good setting for video games, particularly horror.

$20 Game of the Week: Amnesia – The Dark Descent(PC, Mac, Linux, OnLive)

Note: This is the second horror-related $20 Game of the Week for this month, keeping up with our Halloween theme. Stay tuned for more interactive horror!

I found that Eternal Darkness sequel you’ve been looking for. Okay, so it may not have the same themes as the Gamecube classic, it’s theme of sanity still remains, and it’s just as disturbing and frightening. If you play, you should follow the developers advice: make sure the room is dark, wear headphones, and keep the gamma level as is. Don’t try to play this game to win so much as immerse yourself in the experience.

$20 Game of the Week: Eversion (PC)

As we all know, Halloween is this month, so instead of doing one big long horror themes Lost Classics/20 GOTW at the end of the month, I’ll do several smaller $20 GOTW each week of the month and throw in a horror themes Lost Classic and Maximum Letdown as well. This is the first of several horror themed 20GOTWs each week of this month. Most of them will be indie releases, but if you want a good scare, check them out! This week’s game is Zaratustra Productions’ Eversion, an innocent looking platformer, or at least it starts out that way. The Lovecraft quote at the beginning of the game and the developer’s warning that this isn’t for kids should cause some alarm.

$20 Game of the Week: Rochard (PC, Mac, PSN, Linux)

Seen in the most recent Humble Indie Bundle, Rochard is a 2D Platform/Puzzle hybrid in which players manipulate gravity to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. Playing as John Rochard, you are on a routine space mining mission for the Skyrig Corporation. However, things go wrong pretty quickly, and you find yourself battling Space Bandits and other enemies as you investigate what’s going on. Your main weapon is the G-Lifter, a gun which can manipulate gravity to life objects. You can also control gravity to allow yourself to jump higher, and alter the trajectories of objects. Each of the game’s puzzles revolve around gravity, same way as Portal’s puzzles centered around teleportation and physics. The gameplay is easy to pick up on while challenging enough to keep you engaged. It’s available on Steam and PSN, but you can grab it as part of Humble Bundle 6 until Monday October 1st at 7pm EST.
