KEEP PLAYING: Rewind – Amiga Memories

For this episode I did something very spur-of-the-moment and special in the form of a look at my own personal past, as I dig up games for the Commodore Amiga from over 15 years ago! Take a stroll down memory lane with me as I look at games I’d thought lost forever!

Powet Alphabet: I is for Inverted Castle

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

You’ve gotten to 99% of the overall castle completed. You’ve gotten this far thinking “Wow, this was a short game, but I guess it was ok”. Then you make it to that last room, only to have a cutscene erupt or being transported to an entirely different room.

But wait! Everything looks different. You haven’t been here before, but you should have 100% of the map done, right? And why is everything upside-down or a new, decayed shade?

Congratulations. You’ve been transported to the Inverted Castle.

New Mortal Kombat Banned in Australia

It looks like any of our Aussie bretheren will have to import if they want to get their hands on the new Mortal Kombat coming out in April.

According to a inside source for IGN, the Australian Classification Board, which oversees all game ratings for their region, has denied classification for new Mortal Kombat reboot, and will not be allowing its sale in the country, including any previous pre-sale orders. The Board also requested prohibition of any displays for the game in local retail shops.

Warner Bro., who own NetherRealm Studios and subsequently the MK game itself, released a statement:

WBIE would not market mature content where it is not appropriate for the audience. We understand that not all content is for every audience, but there is an audience for mature gaming content and it would make more sense to have the R18+ classification in Australia. As a member of the iGEA, WBIE is reviewing all options available at this time.

Thanks to Mortal Kombat Online for their extensive coverage on the update.

KEEP PLAYING: Rewind – Mutant League Football

Spider-Man Movie Web-Swinging Action!

How many more hyphens can we fit into a title? Don’t tempt me, but here’s a few photos of some high-flying stunt action straight off the set of the new Spider-Man movie.

A few more after the cut. Nice to know it’s not all CG.

E is for Emeralds (of the Chaos variety)

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

You’re a badass, right? You run around and foil evil schemes of your enemy, kick the asses of his henchmen, and save all the innocents that happen to get cross in the crossfire. You do this with speed, style, and cunning.

But what’s this? Your enemy has unleashed his Ultimate Creation upon you and the hapless others around you. It renders your speed and style nearly useless and quadruples the danger-factor in your quest, drastically cutting down your chances of winning the day or even coming out of it alive. You need more than just style and speed, now. You need POWER.

You’re Sonic the Hedgehog and you need to go Super. How do you do this? With the goddamn Chaos Emeralds, that’s how.

New Mortal Kombat Action Figures?

Mortal Kombat 2011 Toy RendersWith all the new media flooding the internet regarding Mortal Kombat (2011), which has a release date in April, it seems Warner Bros. (who took over intellectual property of Midway last year) has been jumping on top of the merchandise wagon. Mortal Kombat Online reports that toy manufacturers Jazwares will be releasing a line based on the upcoming Mortal Kombat game. Jazwares had also done a line of figures based of past MK games, Deception and Shaolin Monks.

No other details have been officially confirmed as of yet, though MKO reports that Multiplayer.com is sporting an order page with the above graphic, supposedly being used as references to the figures coming out. Whether this is legit or not has yet to be determined.
