More Details on the New Gargoyles Spin-off Comic

Robyn CanmoreYesterday we reported on a new Gargoyles Spin-off Comic, “The Bad Guys”, which was announced at Wondercon. More news on the subject has been clarified in this message from Greg Weisman.

The series will be black and white and have a 6 issue run. Following a bi-monthly schedule it is planned to start in October of this year.

Frequent readers of the Gargoyles creator’s Ask Greg may be familiar with this concept already.

Back when the Gargoyles TV series was still on the air Greg had ideas for a number of Gargoyles spin-off shows including “The Bad Guys”, which was the series which came closest to realisation. It only stands to reason that this comic will closely resemble the story planned out for this spin-off series.

Gargoyles Spinoff Comic Planned

DemonaYesterday, at a panel at Wondercon Greg Weisman announced that a new Gargoyles spinoff comic “The Bad Guys” would be released. The name seems to indicate this comic would have something to do with some villains of some kind. This book would, like the current Gargoyles comic, also be released on a bi-monthly schedule so that between the two books one would be released every month.

This will be a nice change of pace from the 5 to 6 month delay between issues that fans have become used to with the last 2 issues that were released in the better part of the last year.

This article goes on to explain some interesting tidbits about the show’s early creation and discusses reasons for the delays to the comic we’re supposed to be ignoring with a smile. Oh sorry I know I’m bringing on God’s fury by saying things like that. Where’s issue 3 again? Even Civil War’s had time to wrap up.

Here’s hoping this will be as good a comic as we still hope the first book will be once they start telling new stories.

Dead or Alive Movie Review

It won’t be out on this side of the ocean until June 22nd 2007 but this movie was released in Australia and many parts of Europe last year. Here’s a look at what we can expect from what will surely be this summer’s greatest blockbuster.

If you really can’t wait to check out this great movie you can go ahead and import the Dead or Alive DVD from Amazon UK. Note that this movie is region 2 and PAL encoded so it won’t work in all DVD players. If importing’s not your thing then you should just get yourself in the mood by buying a Dead or Alive video game from the normal Amazon and help support the site.

Learn about how Hitomi is technically a guy and other trivia about this movie after the jump.

Live Action Sailor Moon movie?

Probably not. Like 99% probably not and that’s me being optimistic. Regardless this unreliable source is reporting that there is an English live action Sailor Moon movie in the works and that “one of the major movie studios” is trying to get Joss Whedon to direct. The article goes on to reveal the most absurb cast including a mix of people who are too good for such a role to people I’ve never even heard of. This cast sounds just like any other random idiot’s “Who would you cast in a live action Sailor Moon movie?” list which I must admit I’ve read and written far too many of.

This is not the first rumour of a live action Sailor Moon movie. About 10 years ago you couldn’t go long before hearing about Geena Davis‘s Sailor Moon movie she was set to star in as Queen Beryl. Since then such rumours occasionally resurface in one form or another.

So why am I telling you this? Because someone said it. Because it’s probably fake but it’s of interest. Because when they first announced the Japanese live action series I was 99+% sure it was fake.

I guess now we just have to wait for some idiot to ask Joss Whedon about this before that < 1% bit of doubt is put to rest.

New Dreamcast Game

Karous for the Sega DreamcastWHAT? That’s right. According to Sega’s Japanese website a new game titled “Karous” will be released in Japan on March 8th on the Sega Dreamcast. Yes the Sega Dreamcast. Sega announced over 6 years ago on January 31st 2001 that they would cease production of the Dreamcast.

The game is a top view spaceship shooter somewhat similar to another Dreamcast game, Ikaruga, which was released in September of 2002, long after the console’s end of life. In the long period of time since the system’s death there have still been a handfull of games released for it. Could this finally be the last?

Since this game will only be released in Japan it could only be played in North America through some sort of piracy and we all know that’s not possible on the Dreamcast…

Check out the game’s official site for more information about Karous.

Thanks to Sega nerds for the scoop.

All CG Ghostbusters movie

GhostbustersA third installment to the popular Ghostbusters franchise will be an all CG movie. This was confirmed by Dan Aykroyd, who played Ray Stantz in the original movies, in a radio interview. The movie will not be live action like the others in the series though Bill Murray will still lend his voice for his character of Peter Venkman.

Dance Dance Revolution comes to the Wii

Dance Dance Revolution for the WiiKonami is desiging a new Dance Dance Revolution game exclusively for the Wii. The game will use classic DDR pads which plug into the Gamecube’s controller ports in conjunction with hand movements using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck.

With support of up to 4 players it’s a good thing the Gamecube pads for Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix are also compatible. Since this is a more traditional Dance Dance Revolution game when compared to the Mario Mix variation this will be the first standard DDR game made available on a Nintendo system. Many of the more classic modes of play will also be available in this title.

This IGN articles gives us a very in depth look at the prelimenary game though as they note many aspects could be changed or polished before this title is actually released.

YTV to launch Anime Channel in Canada

PJ Fresh Phil and Snit in the Zone on YTVThe Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commision has approved a request by YTV to have an anime themed channel in Canada. The target of the channel would be 18+ which is a change considering YTV stands for “Youth Television”.

A lot of numbers are thrown around in this broadcasting decision which serve only to confuse people but so much to say the channel will have to be exclusively anime and anime related shows. I suppose it remains to be seen exactly what the CRTC counts as anime. Interest in a similar French channel was mentioned though no details are included. As YTV does not have a French equivalent these requests likely came from elsewhere.

Still far too early to talk about when this may happen or what cable packages will offer it but this is promising for Canadian anime fans who are unable to watch many anime programs broadcast on US exclusive stations such as Cartoon Network. Equivalent Canadian channels such as Teletoon play a fraction of these shows often months to years later.

Of course the reason we can’t just watch Cartoon Network in the first place is because of the CRTC but hey just for today let’s be glad they’ve done something good for a change.

Thanks to Cybersnark for pointing out this post with the news.
