More Details on the New Gargoyles Spin-off Comic

Yesterday we reported on a new Gargoyles Spin-off Comic, “The Bad Guys”, which was announced at Wondercon. More news on the subject has been clarified in this message from Greg Weisman.
The series will be black and white and have a 6 issue run. Following a bi-monthly schedule it is planned to start in October of this year.
Frequent readers of the Gargoyles creator’s Ask Greg may be familiar with this concept already.
Back when the Gargoyles TV series was still on the air Greg had ideas for a number of Gargoyles spin-off shows including “The Bad Guys”, which was the series which came closest to realisation. It only stands to reason that this comic will closely resemble the story planned out for this spin-off series.
The series would center around some of our favourite villains from the series who have reformed under the direction of “The Director” who uses them to counter the Illuminati. Heading up the team is Robyn Canmore, one of the Hunters who tried to destroy the Gargoyles in the memorable season 2 finale “Hunter’s Moon”, but had a change of heart at the last moment. Ex Pack member Dingo along with the nanites forming Matrix join the team in a not so surprising twist. When we last saw Dingo in Australia he professed an interest in using his powers for good as he’s clearly doing. Yama, a Gargoyle from Japan who also regretted his misguided ways, would add a Gargoyle element to the group. The odd choice rounding up the group is Fang who never once in the series showed any positive qualities though I suppose that’s a redemption story we could see exclusively through this comic’s story telling. No doubt some details of the series may have changed in time.
Other spin-off ideas included “Timedancer”, a Quantum Leap like story where Brooklyn jumps through time with the Phoenix Gate, “The New Olympians”, where the reclusive nation attempts to integrate itself into the human world, “Gargoyles 2198″, a series where Gargoyles of the Future fight the aliens who are at war with the Sisko guy from Easter Island, “Wyvern Castle”, a prequel story taking place in the years buliding up to the fall of Castle Wyvern and “Pendragon” a story of King Arthur and Griff who travel in search of Merlin.
Greg Weisman has mentioned that he hopes to incorporate some of the planned ideas for his spin-offs into the current Gargoyles comic.

I think I would be more interested in “The Bad Guys” actually being about bad guys that do bad things, not reformed bad guys doing good things. But “yay” for a spin-off series for Gargoyles.

I think it’s not really considered ethical for anyone who’s not a mobster to be a villain and be the main character of anything.

Thanks for posting this.
Issue 3 is supposed to be released on March 28th. Disney finally got off their asses and approved it.

I love the original Gargoyles. I really wish Disney never stopped making the show. Is there any chance of havig Goliath in it, remember Gargoyles age half of that of a human so he would still be only about 5 years older physically. Plus in comics you can do anything. I saw that they may do a spin off with Brooklyn using the phoenix gate. How would they do that if Goliath through the phoenix gate in past time and they said no one would ever be able to retrieve it.
