I recently finished this book. I finished the second book in the series two days later. I cannot put these books down. The trailer does a fair job of setting out only the most basic premise of the plot. After North America falls to disaster, the nation of Panem rises. It is split into 12 districts and the Capitol. The districts are kept in poverty while the Capitol flourishes. After a failed rebellion by the districts long ago, the Capitol established the Hunger Games to remind the districts of their failure.
And yes, that was Woody Harrelson as Haymitch.
I sure am looking forward to this movie. Are you?
The first trailer from the Ghost Rider sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance staring Nicolas Cage has been released online, with a very brief introduction by directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance comes out next year on February 17, 2012.
You might ask why a geek news site is interested in such a mainstream action movie that doesn’t come out for another 5 months. Well, I will give you THREE reasons: #1 – Produced by JJ Abrams, who along with Mission Impossible 3 is also responsible for LOST, Alias, Star Trek 2009, and this summer’s Super 8. #2 – Tom Cruise co-stars with a slew of geek favorites: Simon Pegg (Shaun Of The Dead), Jeremy Renner (The Avengers‘ Hawkeye) and Josh Holloway (Sawyer from LOST). #3 – This is a big one: Its the first live action movie directed by Brad Bird. He’s the screenwriter for the cult classic *batteries not included and a veteran animation writer and director with credits on The Simpsons, but he’s also responsible for 3 of the best animated movies of the past decade: The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille.
Bird took the gig directing Mission Impossible because Disney/Pixar delayed production of his intended next film, 1906, which would be Pixar’s first live action movie, about the 1906 earthquake the nearly destroyed San Fransisco. If Mission Impossible exceeds expectations, that movie will likely shuffle into production quicker.

This new trailer for Cap focuses strongly on Steve Rogers pre-transformation. The effects to make Chris Evans not only skinny, but short, are really impressive. He’s almost hobbit sized.
“Forty Six & 2” by Tool is used to great effect. A really amazing tune by an amazing band, the movement of the music kicks in right as Steve is revealed and there are hints of some good fights in the second half of the trailer. And because we need to be beaten over the head with the Marvel cinematic universe, Howard Stark (Tony’s father) is featured and named in this trailer too.
An HD version of the trailer is being hosted by Yahoo.
Why isn’t this movie opening on July 4 for the US Independence day? Will you see it?
USAToday had the first trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes coming to theaters in the United States on August 5th, 2011. James Franco, John Lithgow, Andy Serkis will be among the cast with Serkis voicing Caesar as well providing motion capture for the character.
The game was announced a year ago, and isn’t due until 2012, but even with only a handful of characters shown, Street Fighter X Tekken is looking well. Capcom has released 2 new trailers, one consisting of cinematics and another of gameplay, as well as a poster and 10 screen shots.
The SF character retain their look from Street Fighter 4, and the Tekken characters seem to be making the transition to Capcom’s gameplay and art style very well.
However, Tekken sukz and Street Fighter Rulz lol, so this game can finally put and end to that argument. [Read the rest of this entry…]
