Sega is guilty of not caring after its favorite son, Sonic. In fact the best game with Sonic in it in the last 5 years is probably Super Smash Bros Brawl, made by Nintendo.
The above video is not officially released by Sega, but accompanies the alleged Sonic Unleashed screenshots. It looks official enough to me, probably just waiting to be revealed at a press conference or by a magazine/site exclusive.
Whatever Sonic Unleashed is, it needs to be good. The GameBoy Advance and DS Sonic games have done well rehashing classic Genesis gameplay, but do little to advance the franchise. Sonic Unleashed is supposedly for Xbox 360 and PS3 and could be somewhat similar to last year’s Wii Sonic game (which wasn’t met with great reception, but wasn’t really bad either)

Sonic The Hedgehog has been the most wanted character not just for Super Smash Bros Brawl, but even going back to Super Smash Bros Melee. The second Sega became a 3rd party publisher for Nintendo, people knew it was possible. And soon Sega is publishing Sonic and Mario at the Olympics, which is fine for a fair competition. But the one wanted is to see Sonic fight Nintendo classic characters hand to hand, thus bringing to life the console wars from generations ago.
On the not-so-bright side, the Japanese date for the game has been revealed as January 24, with the US release now stating “TBD” instead the previously announced December 3rd. A delay would be uncomfortably, but not unexpected. Nintendo has a consistent track record of piling on delays to get the game RIGHT. At least we’ll have The Olympics this year.
A list of events for play in the upcoming Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Gamesfor the Wii has been revealed. The DS version is reportedly delayed until the beginning of next year.
A while back when I featured Silent Hill 4 in this column, I expressed my desire to see an actual FPS Silent Hill game. The fear factor, the atmosphere, and the fact that anything you run into can kill you would make it a unique experience more than any other survival horror or FPS game. Sega’s Condemned, one of the first games announced for the Xbox 360 and one of the system’s best launch titles, is a great example of what such a game would look like. Not only that, it’s a fine game on its own merits as well. [Read the rest of this entry…]
One publisher’s game list for one trade show shouldn’t be a big deal, but as a fan of several dormant Sega series, I’m making it a big deal. Xbox360Rally has a list of games Sega will supposedly announce and display at Tokyo Game Show.
Stuff we’ll be happy to see again: Space Channel 5, Jet Set Radio, House Of The Dead, and Sega Rally.
Stuff you never expected to see again: Shenmue I, II, and III, Fighter’s Megamix, Virtual Fighter Kids, and Chu Chu Rocket!
Over this past weekend, a milestone was hit when Sonic the Hedgehog officially turned 16 years old. Sega’s mascot has been a teenager for some time now, but still has quite a rich reputation that he’s brought to the table in the gaming world, along with bringing a few friends with him for the ride on the gaming rollarcoaster.
What does this mean in terms of what is going to happen in the future for the blue speed-demon? Well, lets first recap on our beloved hedgehog’s life thus far. [Read the rest of this entry…]
Released during the midst of the fighting game craze of the mid-90s, this game went largely overlooked due to the fact that so many other games came out during the time. Shame too, as it attempted to set itself apart from the many Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat clones of the era with it’s storyline and unique combat system, which was based off real fighting styles more so than other 2-d fighting games.
