Power Rangers Mega Battle

Fans of the old school Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series will want to take a look at this. Developed by Bamtang and published by Namco Bandai, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle is a multiplayer action brawler for up to 4 players. The game will feature cutscenes, monsters, and dialogue based on the original series, and will also feature unlockable characters. The game will be coming to Xbox One and PS4 next year. If the gameplay can keep in line with the graphics, MMPR:MB will be an excellent flashback to our childhood.

TGS: Fire Emblem and Xenoblade Characters join Project X Zone 2


Project X Zone 2: Brave New World, the mega crossover featuring characters from Capcom, Namco Bandai, and Sega was featured this past week at the Tokyo Game Show, and several new characters were revealed. Chrom and Lucina from Fire Emblem Awakening join the cast, which now means that we could be seeing characters who aren’t originally from a Capcom, Sega, or Namco game. Also, Fiora from Xenoblade Chronicles joins Kos-Mos to form a team. These 4 characters will join characters such as Pheonix Wright, Leon Kennedy, and Jill Valentine as just a few of the many playable characters in Project X Zone 2. There’s another new character coming to Project X Zone 2 as well. Find out who it is after the jump.

Project X Zone 2 headed west this fall

A rumor had been flying around for the past few days that Project X Zone 2 was in development. Not only is this rumor true, but PXZ2 will be hitting the U.S this fall, same timeframe as the Japanese release. Like its predecessor, PXZ2 will be a crossover between Sega, Capcom, and Namco which will be hitting the Nintendo 3DS. The developers must have read my mind, because Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Manjima from Sega’s Yakuza series will be among the new characters in this entry. Tekken villain Kazuya Mishima and Devil May Cry’s Vergil look like they’re also going to be joining the fun. Leon Kennedy, Strider, and so many others will be a part of this game as well. Resident Evil’s Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, Tales of Vesperia’s Yuri and Flynn, and Mega Man X and Zero will be among the returning characters. What other franchises will have characters joining the fray? Streets of Rage? Final Fight? Tales of Xilla? Rolling Thunder? Remember Me? Dragon’s Dogma? Dark Souls? Aww, I’m getting too ahead of myself, I need to calm down. Just check out the trailer above and let us know who you would like to see.

$20 Game of the Week: Project X Zone (Nintendo 3DS)

This spiritual successor to the Japan only Namco X Capcom brings together characters from 3 different companies to do battle in Strategy Rpg Greatness. An ancient treasure has been stolen, causing rifts between worlds, bringing together characters from several different franchises. However, the storyline is all just an excuse to bring over characters from various Sega, Namco, and Capcom franchises. It’s not just popular franchises like Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Tekken either (although those are included) but there are characters from God Eater, Sega’s Shining Force, Sakura Wars, and even Dynamite Cop to name a few. Since you’ll probably be unfamiliar with most of the characters you’ll encounter, the in-game Crosspedia tells you everything you need to know about whoever shows up. Characters are grouped together in teams of two, with some teams containing an optional support character. When you engage an enemy in battle, it’s a side scrolling fighting game style battle sequence when you try to do as much damage to the enemy as possible before using up all your moves. You can even call in a nearby team and support character for assistance. The game is incredibly casual, as a character’s turn doesn’t end until you end their turn manually or they engage an enemy. You can move freely within your characters allowed move area, and use items as many times as you want. If a character is knocked out, reviving them is as simple as going next to them and saving them. During the game, you’ll hear tunes from each of the games represented, and you’ll travel to somewhat familiar locations. While the storyline doesn’t make any sense at times, you’ll have to much fun with the characters to care. Fans of strategy RPG games will want to pick this game up, and if you’re familiar with any of the characters represented, you’ll enjoy the game even more.

Hirokazu Yasuhara Will Become First Game Designer to Work on Sonic, Pac-Man, and Mario


Gamasutra reports that Hirokazu Yasuhara has joined Nintendo, working at the Nintendo Of America headquarters in Redmond, WA. He joins as a designer with NST, who are credited with creating the Mario VS Donkey Kong series.

Why is this news? Yasuhara is credited as a co-creator of Sonic The Hedgehog, working with Yuji Naka at Sonic Team and at Sega through 1997. During that time, Sega produced games that challenged and overtook Nintendo in many regards. He also worked with Namco-Bandai on Pac-Man Party on Wii and 3DS. With his new position at NST he will inevitably work with Mario. Hirokazu Yasuhara will become the first game designer to be credited on games featuring the three biggest names in video games: Sonic, Pac-Man, and Mario.

If this is not an impressive enough feat, he also has level design credits with Naughty Dog working on the Jak & Daxter series on PS2 and all three Uncharted games on PS3.

Lost Classics: Lucky and Wild (Arcade)

This is why I love arcade games from the 85 – 95 period. One look at a cabinet like this, and it isn’t hard to see what inspired this game. Modeled after buddy cop flicks like Tango and Cash, Starsky and Hutch, and Miami Vice, Lucky and Wild is an on-rails shooter/racing hybrid. You set out to catch a series of drug dealers by driving and shooting at them. The cabinet has a steering wheel and two guns attached. The idea is that player one uses the wheel and first gun while player 2 uses the second gun. Of course there are several unofficial ways to play the game as well, either increasing or decreasing the difficulty. Player two can use player one’s gun (thus saving quarters), player two can use both guns (thus freeing player one for driving), or a player can use player two’s gun while player two uses player one’s gun. It’s not the end-all of arcade games, but it was a pretty clever concept, one that could use a revisit in this age of motion capture gameplay.
