Top 5: Movie Parody Music Videos

I’m sure you’ve seen some music videos that knock heavily on scenes from movies, and here are five of my favorites. Excluding the obvious Weird Al ones, and stuff that just has movie scenes worked into the band playing, the Powet Top 5 are…

Jay-Z featuring Blackstreet
“City Is Mine”
The Usual Suspects

Sean Carter is interrogated by Detective Rappaport, in the same manner as Verbal Kint by Agent Kujan in the movie. The video mimics a couple scenes, and ultimately duplicates the movie’s twist. Who is Jay-Z?

Guitar Hero World Tour Drums

OK, so Guitar Hero is going the Rock Band route and introducing drums. I wasn’t eager to see this, as I don’t think my living room needs another drum kit. But after watching this video where Travis Barker, Chad Smith, and Stewart Copeland scrutinize the set, I’m eager to at least try it out. Will Guitar Hero reclaim the crown from all the Rock Band devotees? Hard to say, but Activision isn’t fooling around.

Following the cut are the press release and debut trailer [Read the rest of this entry…]

Nine Inch Nails – “Discipline” Now Free

discipline.jpg
Trent Reznor made waves only a month ago when he released a new Four Disc Nine Inch Nails instrumental album for only $5 and gave away the first disc for free.

Now a new proper NIN record is on the way and less than 24 hours after the first single was mastered, its online. In Trent’s own words “You can download your own copy of the track RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW for free.

Of course Nine Inch Nails secrets are still yet to be revealed; the comments section on the MP3 says “Go to www.nin.com May 5.” A new album? Another single? With no record label to hold him back and digital distribution in his control, Trent Reznor can do whatever he wants.

Obscure Find of the Week – NinSheetMusic.net

NinSheetMusicWhen we had an article back in October featuring our very own Mike Choi, I’m sure at least a few people were loudly expressing in their heads “I wish I could play game music on a piano too!”

Well, I’ve managed to find a place that could serve as a pretty good primer for those of you who don’t have adept skills are reproducing your favorite game tunes. NinSheetMusic.net features a steadily growing database of tunes from many of the popular video gaming series to date. Fan-submitted sheet music for the piano, using a freeware program called Finale Notepad, are judged and tweaked by the site staff before uploading. This provides a decent amount of quality-base, rather than everything submitted being automatically thrown up on the site. Originally, the site was only supposed to host tunes from Nintendo console games. However, as of fairly recently, popular demand has changed that status quo to the freedom to submit gaming music from *any* console. While this technically may make the site name a bit obsolete, I doubt many people will care.

Tunes range from fairly simple to rather complex, so your favorite themes may be beyond your ability at first. However, if you ever wanted to seriously sit down and try your hand at tickling the ivories, this would probably be a site to check out.

I can play Green Hill Zone! (…sorta)
