Adventures In Babysitting Remake?

From the Powet Forum:

So I’m catching Adventures in Babysitting on Oxygen, I’m sure few of you guys frequent this particular channel, and reliving this part of my childhood. I never really liked the little girl when I was a kid because I thought she was bratty but when she’s in her room arguing with her brother who’s pissed cause she used his Clearasil to color yet another picture of her hero Thor I knew I needed her as my avatar with the caption “THOR’S NOT GAY!”.

When I hit up google I came across this that made me vomit in my mouth a little. Just because of the fact that Raven Simone came up in my results unexpectedly.

Brace yourselves.

Curiousity got the best of me and I clicked it to discover that Disney is getting started to put out a remake of Adventures in Babysitting with Raven taking place of Elisabeth Shue’s role (pictured right). My thoughts? Oh, heellll no. [Read the rest of this entry…]

ADV’s Anime Sale returns

ADV Sale
Every few months ADV holds the same sale. It’s not a rare event by any stretch but it really is a great sale. Basically the sale includes only ADV titles ranging anywhere from 5 or 6 dollars a DVD for older stuff to the 15 to 20 dollar range for newer releases. I’ve ordered from these sales in the past and have not been dissapointed. They’ll even throw in a “free gift” which I suppose could be anything but last time I made an order and fully expected a free bookmark or coaster it was a free Angelic Layer vol. 1 DVD.

The only downside to this deal is that your barcodes will be drilled. Yes drilled. They literally drill a hole in the DVD case where the barcode is so that it becomes obscured to the point of not being resold. I imagine this is because some of the cheaper priced items are cheap enough that retailers could order them for less than they could through their normal channels.

Drill hole

The reasons for the sale are always random. This time it’s celebrating “Golden Week” and the sale is on until May 6th. So head over to ADV’s web site and see if anything on that list peeks your interests and if you miss the deadline don’t sweat it because another sale is always just around the corner.

Oh and this is not an ad. I’m not making any money off of this post.

Geometry Wars All Acheivements In One Game

I love me some Geometry Wars. At only $5, its the best value of any game on Xbox Live Arcade, and the intense gameplay makes for a quick time killer to hours long repeat attempts to best a high score.

GameTrailers user Lloyd1337 has uploaded a video running through all 12 Achievements in one game. Its a little sped up to keep it under 10 minutes, but its pretty easy to tell this guy is a master. He doesn’t even die once until after he’s hit 1.3 million points! And from there he still piles on another 2 million! On their message board Lloyd mentions he needs a new controller “because the thumbsticks on the one I have now are getting worn down from all this GW” Outstanding work.

Ken Kutaragi Steps Down – Thoughts and Opinions

Ken KutaragiAs many of you have probably read already, as of this past Thursday, Mr. Ken Kutaragi has stepped down and retired from his position as chief executive officer and chairperson of Sony Computer Entertainment. Kutaragi will still have a role as an Honorary Chairman, but for all intents and purposes, will no longer be working directly with Sony.

As a little recap, Kutaragi was the inventor of the original Playstation gaming console, and has been dubbed the “Father of the Playstation”, and it’s subsequent sequel systems. With this act, the Playstation franchise became the the most profitable division of Sony. However, Kutaragi will end up passing the torch at the next Sony shareholders meeting on June 19, 2007, where it is said he will then venture off to work on his own projects.

“It has been an exciting experience to change the world of computer entertainment by marrying cutting edge technologies with creative minds from all over the world. I’m looking forward to building on this vision in my next endeavors.”

Additional news and press release information can be found here.

Of course, rumors of conspiracy are abound and in full swing. With Sony having to deal with $2 Billion in losses related to their gaming division over the past year, and the underwhelming failure of Playstation 3 sales, this will do anything but give the company new momentum and direction. Kutaragi admitted himself that the shortage of Playstation 3 consoles sent to North America and Japan retailers, as well as the postponement of the console’s release, led to Sony’s declining strength in software. Sacrificial lamb? Who knows. All that is known now is that Sony is losing a brilliant mind and the original driving force behind the Playstation franchise. What this means for the company’s future will remain to be seen, though it seems like it very well could be just another nail in the coffin for their reputation.

Cameron and Manson team up for 3D music video

mechanicalanimal.jpg
Bloody Disgusting reports on the next project to be released from Director James Cameron. Its not Avatar, its not Jesus, its Marylin Manson.

Marylin Manson will release a new album soon titled “Eat Me, Drink Me” and the man himself has conceptualized another shocking video for the track “Heart Shaped Glasses.” Academy Award winner Cameron filmed the clip using his new favorite 3D technology so you at home can feel like you’re in a bloody sex scene. Watch a short clip at YouTube, but not when your boss is around.

Spider-Man, The Musical?

Spider-Man and Music, friends at last...
SuperHeroHype brought this oddity back to the forefront the other day when they posted the casting breakdown. Having finally read through it, I gotta say… It’s pretty freaking hilarious that they equated Ted Turner with the Green Goblin. Also, check the listing for the Arachne character for some delightfully bizarre plot points:

[ARACHNE] Female, 20-35 years old, any ethnicity. A beautiful, boastful young woman turned into a spider for her hubris and lack of respect for the gods. She subsequently appears to Peter Parker and the audience as in turn a powerful spider-woman who comes from another time to inspire Peter; an otherworldly lover; a bride; a terrifying (and sexy) dark goddess of vengeance; a dance partner in a charged and violent spiders dance of death; and, finally, a lonely, fragile young woman. Possesses an ethereal, unique, gorgeous singing voice. Strong Celtic, Balkan style, e.g., Sinead O’Connor. Outside the box ideas are welcomed. Could be someone from the music industry.

Know what else is crazy? Look who’s working on the music and the lyrics: “Bono and The Edge of U2”

And that’s actually how they’re credited. The “U2” part and all, like it’s part of their names. Mind-boggling.

Sony Discontinues 20gb PS3

PlayStation 3
The low end 20gb version of Sony’s PlayStation 3 is being discontinued. This toned down version of the console retails for 100$ less than the full fledged 60gb version. It wasn’t selling well though such statements are relative. The 60gb wasn’t selling well either but when comparing one to another the 20gb was doing much worse.

This quote from a Sony rep is especially ridiculous:
“Due to the overwhelming demand for the 60 GB model from both retailers and consumers, we have ceased offering the 20 GB model here in North America,”

I’m amazed at that company’s ability to maintain the illusion that they think the system is selling well. Maybe they should cease offering the 60gb version due to overwhelming demand for the Wii and XBox 360…

One Month Until Free Comic Book Day

Free Comic Book Day - May 5th, 2007

Free Comic Book Day is in exactly one month – May 5th, 2007! (That’s the first Saturday in May.) It’s gotten bigger and bigger each year, and this year there are over 40 different books to choose from! That is, if your local shop orders them all.

Looking over the selection of books, boo to DC for just reprinting JLA #0 and issue #1 of the animated Legion book – Yet another year of DC participating in a totally half-assed way. (I guess some jeers go to IDW too for reprinting the Transformers Movie Prequel Comic #1, even if they’re actually pushing a movie here.)

Books to watch:

  • Marvel – Amazing Spider-Man: Swing Shift – written by Dan Slott, art by Dan Jimenez
  • Marvel – Marvel Adventures Three-In-One – featuring an Iron Man, Hulk, and Franklin Richards story (grab one to give to a kid!)
  • Image – Astounding Wolf-Man #1 – new book from Robert Kirkman
  • Antarctic Press – Pirates vs. Ninjas #1 – because it’s PIRATES VS. NINJAS
  • Fantagraphics Books – The Unseen Peanuts – over 100 strips of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts that have NEVER been reprinted
  • Rude Dude Productions – Nexus Special – Steve Rude picking up the reigns on his long dormant character
  • Topshelf Productions – Owly & Korgi – Owly is a regular favorite of Free Comic Book Day fans
  • Wildcard Ink – Gumby Special – because it’s Gumby!
