From the Powet Forum:

So I’m catching Adventures in Babysitting on Oxygen, I’m sure few of you guys frequent this particular channel, and reliving this part of my childhood. I never really liked the little girl when I was a kid because I thought she was bratty but when she’s in her room arguing with her brother who’s pissed cause she used his Clearasil to color yet another picture of her hero Thor I knew I needed her as my avatar with the caption “THOR’S NOT GAY!”.

When I hit up google I came across this that made me vomit in my mouth a little. Just because of the fact that Raven Simone came up in my results unexpectedly.

Brace yourselves.

Curiousity got the best of me and I clicked it to discover that Disney is getting started to put out a remake of Adventures in Babysitting with Raven taking place of Elisabeth Shue’s role (pictured right). My thoughts? Oh, heellll no. I have yet to see this girl be in something where she wasn’t tripping over things that arn’t there, popping off overused and outdated slang and well…being able to act in general. (That’s counting the Cosby show, you bitch.)

Corny seems to be her thing with a laugh track ready in the background. There isn’t anything corny about the original. Within the first 40 minutes you have a couple of kids talking about a chick in the latest issue of Playboy who looks ‘just’ like Chris (said babysitter), a teenage girl who talks about putting Draino in her mom’s coffee, on the road into the city a blowout causes them to take a ride with a tow truck guy with one hand who grabs a gun and drives straight to his house to house to shoot the lover of his cheatin’ wife, and then they jump into a car that’s being hijacked and ending up in a chopshop.

The maybe only thing I could see her doing is when they end up in a black club and have to sing the blues cause they can’t leave the stage they wondered onto till they do. But the only thing that makes the scene funny is the fact that there’s all these suburban white kids being stared down by an audience that obviously weren’t expecting or maybe wanting them there. It really comes off to me that Disney is playing it safe with casting a black girl in the lead due to the mishmash of races all throughout the movie…that is if they’re even going to keep the same storyline. Might be a hard stretch since the city in 1987 is a great deal different from the city in 2007.

But I guess the casting aside my big beef with this is…why does it need to be made? Are all of the stories really gone to where all Disney can do is keep remaking the same mother fucking classic movies over and over? If you agree, write your congressman. Let’s put an end to this crime against classic cinema.

Here’s where I found the info. And my favorite quote from another annoyed reader.

Okay, I’ve said my peace and feel a little better. Until I hear anything else about this. I’m sure it’ll continually give me ulcers when it hits the theaters.
