Powet Alphabet: Z is for The Zeta Project

the_zeta_project_banner
Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

What comes to mind when you think of the DC Animated Universe? Batman? Superman? Justice League? Well that’s just the boring junk that’s based on a comic! The real deal is the spinoff of a spinoff that is “The Zeta Project”! A love story about a robot who befriends a teenage girl with a rebellious spirit who, with access to unlimited cash, runs across the country escaping the feds.

ro_and_zee_driving

The Zeta Project is a spinoff of Batman Beyond, and because of this the first appearance of the main character of Zeta was in a Batman Beyond episode named simply “Zeta”. In this episode, Terry ends up in the middle of a manhunt between Government agents and an artificial intelligence robot named Zeta. Batman quickly discovers the robot’s motivations to be pure. Zeta’s assignment was to kill an innocent man, and this caused him to rebel against his programming which he considered wrong. To the Government, a robot which no longer follows it’s orders is assumed to be compromised, and from this misunderstanding comes our main plot.

Prince of Persia ‘Forgotten Sands’ Uncovered

Prince of Persia 4 II

…but should they have stayed hidden?

Resurrecting the Sands of Time series that inspired the upcoming Jerry Bruckheimer film, Ubisoft announced today that their next installment will not be a follow-up to the “new” Prince of Persia series. This change-up shouldn’t be much of a surprise, since it was reported almost two months ago that the name had been reserved for “game-related use”.

While a tie-in makes sense fiscally, will gamers (literally) buy it?

Powet Alphabet: O is for Obscurity

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

This column poses the question, “What makes us geeks?” To that, I say obscurity. As geeks we thrive in the obscure. Be it obscure objects, information or experiences involving our niche interests, we Obsess Over Obscurity.

L is for Lost

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

In the fall of 2004, amidst a general lackluster lineup of programming on TV, my brothers pulled me aside to watch this new show everyone had been buzzing about. After watching just the first episode, I knew there was something great about this show with a simple concept about a plane crashing on a deserted island, but that obviously was up to much more. For me right off the bat the show keyed into something I’ve always been into, which is a kind of survival show idea, but then as it goes on the show kept me hooked with great drama, intriguing mysteries and original ways of tackling sci-fi and fantasy elements.

Michael Bay Quits Transformers

Michael Bay, a man so closely associated with explosions that the image with this post was the only to come to mind, has decided to leave action movies and his hit Transformers franchise behind.

Reported on IMDB he says “After the three and a half years I’ve spent making these movies, I feel like I’ve had enough of the Transformers world. I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions.”

The second chapter in the live action Transformers saga, Revenge of The Fallen, releases next week, and Paramount Pictures has already announced intentions for a third film in July 2011. Michael Bay already said no to 2011, adding he wanted to take a year off and he’s come back 2012. Sounds like 2011 may be the date with a new director.

UPDATE: Michael Bay is not Quitting Transformers

Keanu Reeves is Spike Spiegel

NO.

Remember 3 years ago when we first got wind of what was going on with a Transformers live action movie? How some people cried and said it was all wrong? How some of those people are still saying that?
I join their ranks today. Cowboy Bebop is becoming a Hollywood movie and they’ve got a 44 year old washed up Keanu Reeves to play 27 year old Spike Spiegel. Lets do this movie a solid, get Shia Labeouf as Jet Black, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Vicious and just purposely try to make it the worst thing ever.
I know in my heart this movie will not get made, like so many other anime and comic adapations with bad casting or direction from the get go. But mark my words, if this reaches the screen it will make that Dragonball movie look like Heat.

Variety: Keanu Reeves set for ‘Bebop’
