Furman speaks out about Transformers: Stormbringer

TFstorm1pg01-lowres.jpg“NO… HUMANS… IN… STORMBRINGER…”

So says writer Simon Furman.  The Dream Team that brough us “War Within” “Worlds Collide” and now “Beast Wars” will check out what the heck is happening on Cybertron while “Infiltration” is progressing on Earth.

Newsarama has 5 pages of the book,  which sees Jetfire and the Technobots returning to Cybertron after it apparently was abandoned a long, long time ago.  Furman also confirms Thunderwing (pictured) is in fact the ‘big bad’ for this story, and that he’s been slightly re-imagined so his Pretender origins aren’t so hokey.  Frankly, I was amazed Simon Furman made a lot of the hokier G1, Armada, and Energon concepts so interesting with his writing, so if he’s going to re-write the rules here, I’ll trust him.

Resident Evil 4 heads to the PC

re4pc.jpgThe one time GameCube exclusive is being sent to another platform.
Resident Evil 4 will be released to Windows PCs in May courtesy of Ubisoft. The game appears to be a port of the generously expanded PS2 version, with the “Seperate Ways” campaign, extra costumes, and more weapons.
While its easy to make the arguement that the PS2 port of RE4 didn’t look quite as good as the GameCube original, I look forward to seeing what the game looks like on a high-end PC. Ubisoft has done some really graphically amazing games the last couple years, so I hope there are some enhancements and this isn’t just a straight port.
But if it is a straight port and this is your first chance to play this game: get off your butt and do it. Its as good as everyone says it is.

Four Horsemen FANtastic Exclusive gets wider release

Four HorsemenVoting has closed for the Four Horsemen‘s FANtastic Exclusive poll for 2006. It ended a bit early but the answers to the polls were not in question.

People want a wider release than a San Diego Comic Con exclusive.
They don’t want to have to be members of the forums to be able to purchase the figure.
The Four Horsemen need to pursue other avenues to put this product out to the masses.

The Four Horsemen are now following up on all the polls they’ve taken and seeing how to follow through with the results of these polls. This exclusive this year as voted by us in an earlier poll will be the 7th Kingdom: Minotaur. It looks to be a promising figure. Hopefully we’ll get the wider release we voted for.

On a related note, here‘s a day by day update on the progress of the figure.

First Look: Legion Of Super Heroes, Superman Returns

lsh-firstlook.jpgIn what might qualify as the worst idea in the long sad history of bad ideas, the not-yet-launched CW network has announced its intent to produce a Legion Of Super Heroes series for broadcast later this year. Thanks to Superman Homepage for the scoop.
While “The Batman” has steadily increased in quality from a rather dismal first batch of episodes, they still have a long way to go before coming close to the legendary Batman The Animated Series. LSH intends to jump off that new “The Batman” continuity, as you can plainly see by the character designs. Justice League Unlimited touched on the Legion in Far From Home, but as you can see Brainiac 5 is way different looking and we’ve traded SuperGirl for a rather slender Superboy. Without seeing any actual animation, hearing any voices, or knowing plot details, its hard to say if this will be good or bad. But its easier to be pessimistic, so I’m running with that. Here’s the word direct from WB animation:

One thousand years from now, a group of teenage super heroes travel back in time to recruit the greatest hero of all, Superman, and enlist him their fight against evil in the 31st Century. While their intentions were good, their time travel skills were not, and Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Brainiac 5, Phantom Girl, Bouncing Boy and Timber Wolf end up going too far back into the past, accidentally retrieving the young Superboy instead. Together, this unlikely Legion of Super Heroes bands together to defend the rights of all free worlds and uphold the laws of the newly formed United Planets. That is, if they don’t kill each other first.

LEGION OF SUPER HEROES combines humor with high-stakes, grand-scale super heroics to create the ultimate sci-fi, super hero fantasy for kids of all ages. Each episode of this fast-paced, character-driven action comedy will pit Superboy and the Legion against otherworldly threats and adversaries who challenge the team on both super heroic and emotional levels. The series is executive produced by Sander Schwartz, and produced by Linda Steiner and James Tucker for Warner Bros. Animation.

On somewhat related news, some really exciting Superman Returns footage has been released from an odd source: Coca-Cola. They’re featuring a few seconds of Supes flying through Metropolis and the much talked about Airplane sequence in a new ad campaign. You can see the relevant parts of this commercial from a download on Aint-It-Cool or just stop fast forwarding your TiVo and watch a commercial break sometime.

WIRED’s guide to online video

Television.jpgPeople still kinda tilt their head in confusion when I talk about goals at powet.tv. Granted, we haven’t produced a LOT of video content, but we’ve done some, and the largest posting to date is uploading as I type this.
Wired magazine has stepped in with a guide to television on the inter-net. They cover the best places to get it, the best shows to watch, and even how to create your own content. From RocketBoom to RedVsBlue, there’s obviously more good TV on the net these days than on actual TV. Just what am I paying my cable bill for anyway?

$20 game of the week: God of War (PS2)

god of war.jpg This is Sony’s answer to Ninja Gaiden. A hyperactive button masher with simple puzzles and upgradable weapons and abilities that’s hyper violent and relentless in it’s presentation. You play as Kratos, a really pissed off guy with two blades grafted to his arm. Your mission is to kill Aries, the god of war. Throughout the game you encounter many souped up versions of mythological greek figures such as the minotaur, hydra, and Medusa. Also of note are several action sequences which require you to keep your finger on the control pad not unlike Resident Evil 4. Following the sequence properly can lead to a really big payoff. For action fans with a PS2, this is a must buy for the system, especally since a sequel is coming early next year.

Transformers Movie update

Transformers: The MovieThe latest info to just hit the net: No Soundwave?
Nevermore, a man who collects rumors in larger numbers than toys, has posted a massive update from a dozen sources about producer Don Murphy’s panel at TransformersCon in Toronto. He spoke of General Motors being involved, a battle between Scorponok and the US military in the desert, and confirmation on the use of both the classic transforming sound and the some form of the original theme.
Last week, we got first word on casting from IGN. In addition to Shia “LaBeouf”; Jon Voight, Bernie Mac, and John Tuturro are supposedly cast or close to being cast. Michael Clarke Duncan is also mentioned as US Army Warrant Officer Figueroa, a definite nod to the fan-favorite Transformers comic artist.
Last but not least, Quint from Aint-it-Cool spent some time with Michael Bay talking Transformers, and they speak of some concept art, a few plot points, and further enforce that the US Military is heavily involved and we can count on real tanks and planes being used.
