Sony Announces The Next Generation PSP

Late last night (or right in the middle of the day in Tokyo), Sony announced the next generation PSP. Yes, it has two thumbsticks, you can stop crying now.

What you can’t see immediately: The display is 960 x 544 pixels (thats 16×9 widescreen) with OLED lighting (great for outside or natural light), and capacitive multi-touch screen. Oh, theres also atouch pad BEHIND the screen too. Six-axis tilt sensors like the PS3 controller. Built in Wifi, Built in GPS, and built in 3G support: You’ll be able to download games anywhere. Front and rear facing cameras round out the cool features, though the power of the processor is said to rival current home consoles.

Games will be available on the Playstation store as well as on flash cards (like the DS). UMD is officially dead, but you’ll still be able to buy games in a brick and mortar store if you want.

Speaking of games: Uncharted, Killzone, WipEout, Resistance, Lost Planet, Metal Gear, Yakuza, and Call of Duty were all mentioned as in development. Nothing is official, and we’ll post video as soon as we have it (blurry shaky cams are all over youtube, but no quality video from Sony yet)

Read on for a gallery of photos of the device, and see official specs. Leave us a comment! What do you think? Obviously this blows the previous PSP out of the water, but will it compete with 3DS if the price is right?

New Thundercats toys revealed from London Toy Fair

The internet is a buzz over the newly revealed Thundercats action figures from Bandai. Photography was strictly forbidden at the event, but strangely video was not, so these stills come from someone’s video of the event. The pictures appear to have originally surfaced here. We get our first look at the new logo, new 3 3/4 inch figures, new vehicles and more. It looks like there will be both a 3 3/4 inch line and a larger 7 to 8 inch line aimed more toward collectors, similar to MOTU Classics. Only images of the smaller scale surfaced though, but I’m sure we will be seeing quite a lot more soon at New York Toy Fair. It also might be safe to say that a lot of the hype from Toy Fair will be centering around the relaunch of this franchise.

From the data sheets, it looks like product will be hitting retail around Autumn 2011. Gotta say that Thunder Tank is looking pretty good from the blurry image. The new character art isn’t bad at all either, except those sideburns on Panthro, but thats easily overlooked. Mmm…Cheetara. Yes, Cheetara evokes the same response the old always did. No word if Snarf will be snarfing it up in this series or not.

Find out Which Fantastic Four Member Dies in Fantastic Four #587

It has been known for months that at the end of writer Jonathan Hickman’s “Three” story arc in Fantastic Four, one member of the classic Marvel team would die. Despite efforts to keep the news secret by shipping the issues in black polybags featuring the “Three” logo and shipping the comic a day early, several major news outlets spilled the news hours before any comic shops were open to sell the issue. Marvel themselves issued a press release with the news this morning.

Find out who dies and see preview pages from this issue after the break.

Nerd Rage results in many new images from X-Men: First Class

An image of the cast from the forth-coming film, X-Men: First Class surfaced the other day online. It was a pretty horribly photoshopped image that caused quite a bit of anxiety among fans. In an attempt to make up for it, Fox released three new stills from film the next day. I thought the most interesting of the stills featured Kevin Bacon and January Jones, playing Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost, the White Queen, respectively.

In a seeming fit of rage, Director Matthew Vaughn released two additional stills to settle some of his anger over the initial poor image’s release two days earlier.

And finally, we got our first look at the teaser poster for the movie.

What are your Mass Effect 3 Predictions?

Pretend it’s Wednesday.

Got it? Great!

Now, pretend that everyone who wanted to play Mass Effect 2 on whatever major platform has now had a chance to do so since its release on PS3 “yesterday”. Never mind that the last 24 hours have hardly been enough time to get through a single playthrough, let alone multiple you may need to let the whole story seep into your pores. This author and videographer has (obviously) had significantly more time to digest everything that the first two Mass Effects have had to offer in order to bring you this predictions video!

Keep watching this space for our next KEEP PLAYING video about Mass Effect 2’s many, MANY romance options! And feel free to make your own predictions below.

The Dismemberment Plan Return

The Dismemberment Plan – “The City”

The Dismemberment Plan haven’t toured in 7 years. I’d seen them a dozen times over in their native DC, and the last time I saw them onstage it was in Milwaukee in 2003.

Last Night they appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, making their live TV debut, and this weekend they’ll storm DC again with shows at The Black Cat and The 930 Club.

They’re releasing their album Emergency & I on vinyl LP for the first time. If you don’t have a record player, you can still buy the MP3s too.

The D-Plan also stuck around after the show for another song, which is available online only– [Read the rest of this entry…]

$20 Game of the Week: Uplink (PC)

Ever wanted to become a computer hacker? Don’t know how to program? That’s okay. Uplink, created by indie development group Introversion shows gamers what it’s like to be a hacker (well, at least the way it’s depicted in movies like Hackers and Sneakers) , without having to learn how to program. As a newly hired employee for the Uplink Corporation, you take on several types of missions, such as altering a student’s academic record or hacking into a corporation to steal data. You are given a computer, and you must earn money to upgrade your hardware and software in order to take on more complex missions. Make sure you cover up all evidence of your deeds, least the police trace anything back to you. As you’d expect, the game is light on graphics, but the soundtrack is catchy. The game is available on Steam for cheap, so if you’re willing to look beyond the lack of flashy graphics, you can indulge your 133t fantasies to your heart’s content.
