Doctor Who Animated – The Infinite Quest

Doctor Who - The Infinite Quest
Coinciding with Saturday’s airing of the series 3 premiere of Doctor Who the first episode of a new animated Doctor Who series “The Infinite Quest” aired yesterday as part of Totally Doctor Who. Coming in at a mere 3 minutes and 30 seconds there’s not much to say but I’ll give you a spoiler driven synopsis anyway.

Doctor Who - The Infinite Quest - BaltazarThe villain Baltazar is cruising through space on his ship that he built himself, talking to a robot bird named Caw, as he arrives to Earth. The Doctor and Martha show up in the Tardis. Baltazar explains that he’s going to turn everyone on Earth into diamonds. The Doctor takes out a rusty spoon which rusts the ship away, he frees Caw from his cage with his sonic screwdriver and then he and Martha escape in the TARDIS apparently going to Copacabana beach. Baltazar is left flying around through space on Caw.

South Park Studios profiled on Apple.com

southparkmac.jpg South Park may have a real simple look, but it takes 34 Apple G5 workstations and a hundreds of thousands of dollars in off the shelf software to give it that look.

Apple.com’s “Pro” section takes a look inside what it takes to produce the show. Though heavy on Mac evangilism (it is Apple’s site), the article contains some interesting information about South Park Studios. They work 120 Hour weeks during the season to get a show done in time for broadcast so its as current as that day’s news. I always assumed Comedy Central never ran clips in commercials because the show was hard to advertise in advance, or they didn’t want to spoil the jokes. Its actually because South Park is delivered mere hours before its aired.

Sailor Moon 15 Years Later

Usagi waking up late15 years ago today, on March 7th 1992, the first episode of Sailor Moon, “Crybaby Usagi’s Magnificent Transformation”, aired for the first time in Japan. The series spanned 200 episodes until it’s finale on February 8th 1997. It also spawned 3 theatrical movies, 2 specials, musicals, videos games and an immense assortment of merchandise.

Usagi removing Luna's band aidSailor Moon was based on a Manga series by the same name which began appearing in Nakayoshi in December 1991, 4 months before the premiere of the show, and ran for 52 acts over a span of 5 years.

JadeiteAt its prime Sailor Moon saw great success worldwide as it was broadcast and published in nearly every country in the world. In the mid 90s you’d be hard pressed to go very far without seing some sort of Sailor Moon merchandise. It was likely the most internationally widespread franchise of it’s time. Sailor Moon herself is one of the most popular fictional characters ever, up there with such greats as Santa Claus, Superman and Jesus.

Smallville Legends – The Oliver Queen Chronicles?

Smallville Legends - The Oliver Queen ChroniclesGreen Arrow from Smallville has his own show! Sort of. But it’s very strangely animated. And episodes are only about 2 to 4 minutes long. AND they’re only available on “Sprint TV’s mobile video service.” But don’t worry! Once all of the 6 episodes have ‘aired,’ they’ll be available on the CW’s website, starting February 22nd. You can even watch the official trailer for the show HERE, and catch a glimpse of the painfully odd animation in action.

If the video’s not at that link anymore by the time you read this, go to the Smallville main site, and look under the main picture. Of the four smaller boxes lined up underneath, it should be the one on the right, titled “Smallville Legends.”

As for me, while I have no intention of paying anyone, ever, to see this; that trailer remains a sight to behold. As annoying as the kid sounds in it (Waaa! I don’t want a stupid bow and arrow! Waaaaa!), the visuals alone strike me as too strangely disjointed for anyone to punish their senses with for 2 to 4 minutes. So obviously, if I still remember this a month from now, like a good rubbernecker, I’ll totally be checking it out online when I get the chance.

New episodes of Day Break may premiere in Canada

Taye Diggs in Day BreakDay Break may be returning to Canadian TV February 1st 2007.

Fans of ABC’s Day Break, starring Taye Diggs, were disappointed to learn of the show’s early cancelation last month. This show was slated to run its 13 episode course during Lost’s hiatus but was canceled after a mere 6 episodes due to poor ratings. As all episodes of this show have already been made there are plans still in the works for ABC to release the show online. Apparent problems with rights to music have hindered this process and it now seems they may be released online in late February.

The Canadian channel that played the show, Global TV, was even less forgiving than ABC and stopped airing the show 2 weeks earlier than ABC did. [Read the rest of this entry…]

Doctor Who Explosion 2007

Doctor Who Explosion 2007

Ever since Russel T. Davies and crew brought back the show to BBC One in 2005, response has been enormous, and things have started moving very fast for the UK’s hottest new producer. 2006 saw a second season of the “regenerated” Who, as well as its first (successful) spinoff, Torchwood. New Year’s Day 2007 saw both the Torchwood finale and a special for The Sarah Jane Adventures, based on a former Who companion from the seventies — Sarah Jane also made an appearance in this year’s Doctor Who. Still coming is a fourth series, based on K-9, “the daft metal dog”.
