$20 Game of the Week: Beat Hazard (PC, Xbox Live Arcade)

beathazardLike Audiosurf, Beat Hazard’s gameplay is driven by music. You can load a song, or go through a whole album in survival mode, and the gameplay syncs up to your music. You can use any MP3 in your sound collection, but PC gamers have to download an $1 update that allows them to play with non-protected Itunes tracks, AAC files, and MP4s. You pilot your ship while avoiding enemy fire and asteroids. You gain powerups that upgrade your weaponry, and volume powerups that turn up the volume. While the track isn’t very loud at first, the volume powerups make it louder. However, as the track gets louder, the action gets more intense. Its gameplay is familiar to anyone who has played Geometry Wars. The left analog stick controls movement, the second stick controls the weapons, and the right trigger activates bombs. PC gamers can use a mouse and keyboard, but you’ll definitely want to use an Xbox 360 control pad. Although there isn’t much variety in game modes or enemy types, you can rank up and compete on online leaderboards. If you or someone you know is epileptic, you may want to keep as far away from this game as possible, as the flashing strobe effects get intense. Even if Beat Hazard doesn’t break much new ground, It’s fun and addictive, and it’s a great new way to experience your music collection.

Better pictures of Masterpiece Rodimus Prime surface

Yesterday, we posted some of the first images of the Masterpiece Rodimus Prime unpainted prototype. There were only a three pictures and they left more questions than answers. Today, a TFW2005 poster, posted new images of the unpainted prototype that give a better idea of what this toy is going to be like. I have mirrored them below.

The trailer pictures seem to confirm my underwhelming initial impressions. The robot looks fantastic, with what appears to be a rotating face gimmick to show Hot Rod’s face, similar to the gimmick on the Masterpiece Starscream mold. Overall, the figure looks entirely too short though. We don’t know for certain yet, but he looks much shorter than the Masterpiece Optimus Prime mold and that is a disservice to Rodimus as another Prime. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Pictures are after the jump!

Transformers Generations Jazz, Thunderwing, And More Show Up In China

The next wave of Transformers Generations has been talked about but little seen. No photography was allowed during the Botcon panel that mentioned many of these figures, and Hasbro’s SDCC 2010 panel left a lot of new stuff out.

Now thanks to a presentation at CybertronCon in China, we have our first look at many new figures. Included in this gallery are Deluxe figures Jazz, Pereceptor, Scourge, Thunderwing, and Tracks. Legends class Optimus, Megatron, Starscream, and Goldbug (Gold Bumblebee) are present, as well as Scout Windcharger, Voyager Lugnut and Grapple. Also included are new PowerCore Combiners representing Constructicons and Dinobots.

Alex Paints an Anarchy Symbol in Wizards of Waverly Place

Anarchy Symbol in Wizards of Waverly Place

Another fun little Easter Egg from the Disney TV show “Wizards of Waverly Place”. In episode 23 of season 2, “Paint by Committee”, Alex Russo, played by Selena Gomez, paints a giant letter A on a wall in an abandoned train tunnel. When asked about it’s meaning she says “It’s my initial in a circle representing … my initial in a circle.” but the symbol bears a striking resemblance to an anarchy symbol.

Anarchy SymbolWhat could be the symbolism behind this logo? Alex Russo is a pretty free spirited girl, often opposing authority and rules, so the anarchy symbol certainly applies on a fairly superficial level, but I wouldn’t go so far as to suggest the art department be insinuating we all be better off in a world without Government.

Later in the episode as Alex paints her mural “New York Above and Below” we can once again see the iconic “initial in a circle” shown in the below portion referred to as the “gritty grimy New York, filled with barf”.

Wizards of Waverly Place is known for hiding such symbols. Alex Russo can be seen wearing peace symbols as part of various outfits throughout the show. These occur so frequently that an effort is made to include at least one peace symbol in Selena Gomez’s outfits in every episode of season 2. As opposed to the anarchy symbolism, the crew have made clear that they have strong feelings about putting forth a positive message of peace. Earlier this month Powet reported on Selena wearing an I love hoe bags t-shirt. Though in that case it may have been a mere coincidence, this painting’s resemblance to an anarchy symbol seems to be more than chance.

Rodimus, Cyclonus, Galvatron Classics 3 pack will be a Target Exclusive

Auto Assembly, a UK Transoformers convention released a statement saying that they had a partnership with Hasbro to give away 30 sets of the highly anticipated 3-pack featuring Classics Rodimus (Hot Rod), Classics Cyclonus, and Classics Galvatron. The set is called Challenge on Cybertron and currently was only known to be a limited exclusive to a convention in Hong Kong. The set will not be released in the UK, so this will be the only way to get it that market. The press release went on to mention that it is not even available in the US, where it will be a Target exclusive. That, right there, is the kicker because thats the first announcement of who the distributor will be for the US release.

You can all rest easy now and while you do check out some of the great pictures from the Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong (ACGHK) event’s toy displays.
