Plants Vs Zombies Launches On Android

PopCap games has finally brought their very popular backyard defense game Plants Vs Zombies to Android devices! Its available via the Amazon Appstore exclusively, so you won’t find it on Android Market. Its well worth downloading the Amazon Appstore right now because PvZ is free today only. Yes, May 31, 2011. If it is any other day, you’ll pay $2.99. Be aware the size of the game means you have to download over wifi, but you can still buy the game now and download later if you’re mobile. You can even queue it from the website if you don’t have your phone or tab handy right now.

$2.99 is still a good price for a great game (and a bargain compared to what you pay on other platforms), but its worth downloading Plants Vs Zombies now while its still free.

Ladies, Does Your Man Smell Like Luke Cage?

Isaiah Mustafa, the man who took the nation by storm in a series of very clever Old Spice commercials, has been very vocal about wanting Marvel comics to consider him as Luke Cage in a future movie.

Now taking matters into his own hands, Mustafa appears to have financed the production of a trailer for this non-existant film. Marvel has over the last several years put Luke Cage as a lower priority as it established its Avengers series, but has stated that smaller films about Dr Strange and other less mainstream characters are possible next. Luke Cage would fit in that perfectly, and would be an excellent addition to a future Avengers movie for a cameo.

Theres no doubt that if internet buzz takes over, Marvel will at least consider Mustafa for the role. So does this trailer convince you as it should convince Marvel?

Of course Marvel has already cast Mustafa as Luke Cage once… [Read the rest of this entry…]

Gears Of War 3 Campaign Trailer

Gears 3’s multiplayer beta show the immense promise of the third act of the Xbox shooter series.

But the campaign is going to deliver hard. Marcus’ father is alive and the 3 sides are colliding in a major way. See the humans, the Lambent, and the Locusts tear everything up.

The original Gears Of War made a big splash with a trailer that featured Gary Jules’ subdued cover of “Mad World” and similarly the song “How It Ends” by Devothcka in the Gears 2 spot was more somber than exciting.

Gears Of War 3 pulls no punches. Its “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath and it kicks as much ass as the footage it scores.

Maximum Letdown: Soldier of Fortune Payback (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

So I must confess, the only reason I picked up this game was because Best Buy had it on sale for $10 and it came with a free copy of the original Soldier of Fortune. The original SOF was ‘edgy’ because you could blow enemies apart using the right weapons. The series took a hit with the lackluster Double Helix. With the release of a new Rambo flick and the controversy over Blackwater, Activision figured it was the perfect time to capitalize on FPS games about hardcore mercenaries and warzones. This time however, instead of series regular Raven doing the development, Activision handed production duties to studio Cauldron HQ, makers of classics such as Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2011, Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2010, Jurassic: The Hunted and not one, but TWO first person shooters based on the civil war! With no less than the makers of crappy budget Wii titles and generic Civil War FPS games, then no doubt SOF would be on its way to becoming the biggest FPS franchise ever right? Well, lets see…

$20 Game of the Week: Hard Corps Uprising (PSN, Xbox Live Arcade)

Make no mistake, this is the latest entry in Konami’s Contra franchise. For real, check the main menu theme and game over theme. Despite it’s anime look (courtesy of developer Arc Systems) and sci-fi setting, this entry contains all the hyperactive shoot-em-up action that you expect from the series. The story is pretty generic, with the typical evil government and you as a former soldier out to stop them, but who plays a Contra game for the story? You (and a buddy if playing co-op) grab your guns, and blast everything that moves, picking up weapon upgrades you find en route. You can play in traditional arcade mode, or an all new ‘Rising’ mode where you can earn new moves and weapon upgrades. Extra characters are available for download. Uprising is part of Konami’s attempt to start a spin-off franchise with Hard Corps (originally released on the Genesis during the 90s), and if future titles are as good as this, Hard Corps will represent a new direction for the Contra franchise just as it did all those years ago. Weather you’re a fan of Contra, or just like old school 2D action, you’ll want to download this title.
