$20 Game of the Week: Eversion (PC)

As we all know, Halloween is this month, so instead of doing one big long horror themes Lost Classics/20 GOTW at the end of the month, I’ll do several smaller $20 GOTW each week of the month and throw in a horror themes Lost Classic and Maximum Letdown as well. This is the first of several horror themed 20GOTWs each week of this month. Most of them will be indie releases, but if you want a good scare, check them out! This week’s game is Zaratustra Productions’ Eversion, an innocent looking platformer, or at least it starts out that way. The Lovecraft quote at the beginning of the game and the developer’s warning that this isn’t for kids should cause some alarm.

Lost Classics: In The Hunt (PS1, Arcade)

From the people who bought you R-type, prepare to go on the hunt in In The Hunt! I know, that was a horrible pun.

All The Worst (Best) Parts Of Green Lantern

On Halloween I constructed a crude but satisfying Green Lantern costume. I was pretty proud of it, and took my daughter out trick-or-treating. But, I still hadn’t seen the movie. Missed it in theaters, and hadn’t had a chance to watch the DVD yet.

And then I did watch it and… oh boy.

I wouldn’t say this was the worst movie ever, but it definitely had some really odd choices and some really bland parts. But! I will say that Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond was both ruined and saved this movie. His hammy odd ball freak performance ran against everything else the direction, story, and other actors were trying to convey… but since they were all so bland, he was the only one with any life.

So I made this video. Enjoy.

Powet Alphabet: J is for Jonas Venture

J is for Jonas Venture

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

One of the things the Venture Brothers is known for is its diverse cast of characters. Just seeing the logo or mentioning it by name automatically brings images of Doc, Brock, Hank, Dean, The Monarch and his henchmen to mind. One of the characters who is often overlooked is Thaddeus “Rusty” Venture’s own father, Jonas.

Jonas is an obvious parody of Hanna Barbera’s Benton Quest (Johnny Quest’s father) and other “Adventurer” characters from the late 60’s and 70’s. Jonas’ voice (provided by voice actor Paul Boocock) and physical appearance are a definite nod to characters of that era. Unlike most Hanna Barbera action-dads, he is much colder towards his son and generally has a somewhat of a disregard for his feelings and general well being. If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll probably know all of this, but if not be warned, there are plenty of spoilers after the break.

Toy Fair 2011: Barbie and Ken back together again

Mattel’s big news this year was that Barbie has finally taken Ken back after dumping him seven years ago for an Australian surfer named Blaine. Mattel…er, Ken went so far as to rent out gigantic billboards to get Barbie’s attention and win her back. Full press release (yes, there was a press release) after the jump.

Read Barbie’s blog entry on the matter and tell us all about it in the comments.

I have to admit I’m a little surprised Mattel didn’t take this opportunity to make Lawyer Barbie to serve Ken a restraining order.

Full Movie Trailer for Zack Snyder’s SUCKER PUNCH

Zack Snyder, director of 300, Watchmen, and soon Superman, will release his next film on March 25, 2011.

The official movie synopsis says its about a girl trying to escape a lobotomy in a mental institution, but the imagery in these trailers is so gonzo its hard to tell if I’m reading about the right movie. Sucker Punch does appear to be a dazzling experiment in fan service, though not quite as exploitative of females as men were on display in 300.

Songs used in the trailer are “When The Levee Breaks” by Led Zepplin and “Panic Switch” by Silversun Pickups. Early reports about the soundtrack suggest a film closer to Moulin Rouge, where existing music and dance choreography is inserted within the films narrative.

Full HD variation can be downloaded from Apple.
