Toy Fair 2013: Masters of the Universe Classics

Matty_Mantenna5

Mattel had its presentation and showed off most of what we saw was leaked a few days ago. ToyGuru claimed the leak was on purpose, but I don’t think anyone actually believed him. We got our first look at the full sized, fully painted prototype of Castle Grayskull, the first three figures in the new Filmation subscription and more. Join us after the jump for lots of information and pictures!

Toy Fair 2013: Transformers Generations and Masterpiece lines

I’m breaking up the Transformers news by line because there was just so much information dispersed. The Generations line continues in 2013 kicking off the celebration of the franchise’s 30th birthday in 2014. 30th Anniversary logos will be appearing on packaging with pack-in comics included. IDW and Hasbro has been working together closer to try and get the toys and the comic art to match more closely. If these new reveals are any indication, they are being widly successful.

Join us after the jump for pictures and details of what is coming our way!

The Star Wars Black line was announced within the past few weeks leading up to Toy Fair, but we had only seen X-Wing Pilot Luke. I am happy to say we now have a look at the whole first wave of 4 figures. The first wave will consist of Luke, R2-D2, Darth Maul and a Sandtrooper. These are premium figures loaded with accessories and plenty of detail sculpted by Gentle Giant.

Join us after the jump for pictures and the 3.75 inch Black line as well.

Toy Fair 2013: Hasbro announces Fall of Cybertron Metroplex

Transformers_FOC_-_Optimus_standing_in_Metroplex_hand_640

Hasbro announced at their Toy Fair 2013 event that they will be making a figure of Fall of Cybertron Mextroplex in scale with Legend Class figures. He will be a new class called a Titan Class figure. Metroplex will be a triple changer standing at 24 inches tall retailing for approximately US$125.

The figure is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2013. Fairly appropriate. If its not on display this weekend, we are sure to see it in June at Botcon. Pictures will be added to this post if the figure does end up being on display this weekend.

This is enormous news, but its a shame its in scale with Legends Class figures. …Or alternatively, I should say its a shame that no Fall of Cybertron figures were released in the Legends Class, only the Deluxe and Voyager classes. Legends Class figures are mostly Transformer Prime related. Could this mean a small assortment of FoC figures could be making their way out? Unlikely, but it’d be neat nonetheless.

[UPDATE – More info!]
It looks like Metroplex will come with a Legends Scale Scamper. That was the name of the small black car transformer that came with the original Metroplex. Metroplex will have light up eyes, flip down visor, articulated pupils (?) and independent cannons.

[UPDATE 2 – Pictures!]
Ben Yee’s World of Transformers has posted some great photos of Metroplex on Facebook. You can see the full gallery here. I’ve included a few below.

Note the two figures next to the front view for size comparison. It was also revealed that he will come with a sticker sheet so that the paint apps don’t get lost in cost reduction. This figure on display had the sticker sheet already applied.

Update 3! – Here are some official Hasbro photos of all 3 modes!

Toy Fair 2013: 60’s Batman series action figure line from Mattel

Over the past few days leading up to New York Toy Fair (NYTF) 2013, Mattel has teased us with some reveals for a 6 inch action figure line based on the 60’s Batman series featuring Adam West as Batman. The figures are not just based on the series, but actually use the likenesses of the actors, which makes for a compelling sell. Also, there’s a Batmobile. Aww yeeeeaah.

The line will reportedly be released in July 2013 with figures retailing for US$14.99 and the Batmobile for the rather small sum of US$49.99. Let’s just hope the assumption that the Batmobile is in scale with the figures holds. I wouldn’t take anything for granted.

Join us after the jump for a look at each of the figures! We will update this post as more figures are revealed. We still expect to see Burt Ward’s Robin, Julie Newmar’s Catwoman and Cesar Romero’s Joker.

Fast and Furious 6 trailer – vehicular warfare

The Fast and Furious 6 is coming our way Memorial Day 2013 (May 27). We get our first look at some of the plot in this first extended trailer. Looks like pretty much the whole cast is back including Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Paul Walker, among others.

I don’t really find anything extraordinary about this franchise, but I think its pretty far from awful too. You sit down and watch one of these movies and you are going to be entertained. You may not leave the theater with a new outlook on life, but you probably won’t feel as though you’ve wasted the evening. So far, this sixth installment feels in line with all of that.
