Tom Hardy Joins Cast Of Batman 3

UPDATE: Read HERE for newer information about Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises

Tom Hardy, known for his portrait of infamous British convict Charles Bronson, has agreed to take a role in the next Batman film.

Deadline reports that Hardy will reteam with director Christopher Nolan after the highly successful Inception. The role itself is being kept secret, its unknown if he’ll play a villain or hero but it will be a lead role. Begin speculation!

This news comes just days after Rhys Ifans was cast in Spider-Man, again in an secret role. At least the Spider-Man folks had the decency to tell us what side of the law Ifans will be on. Though I suppose considering Nolan’s Batman franchise, the good and bad guys are never quite so starkly portrayed.

Hardy also becomes the first person of note cast in the movie, though Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Cane, and Morgan Freeman are all expected to reprise their roles.

Young Justice On Cartoon Network Will Have Some Old Justice Too.

Young Justice is a new series coming to Cartoon Network based on the DC comics of the same title. Its not directly affiliated with previous DC Universe animation such as Justice League Unlimited or Teen Titans. If you haven’t see the preview clip already, watch it here.

But that doesn’t mean those characters are off limits. At a panel at New York Comic Con, Series producers Greg Weisman (Gargoyles) and Brandon Vietti (Batman: Brave & Bold) showed that this younger Justice League will serve under the direction of the Justice League. Batman, Red Tornado, and Black Canary will play a direct role in the training, dispatch, and care of the team. Not that there aren’t some other heavy hitters that will show up as well, as you can see by the character designs. Titans Tower reported some of the voice cast of the show as Bruce Greenwood as Batman, Alan Tudyk as Green Arrow, Nolan North as Superman, Phil Lemarr as Aquaman and Rob Lowe as Captain Marvel. Greenwood previously played Batman in “Under The Red Hood” as well as Captain Pike in the 2009 Star Trek film.

Weisman claims they have over 150 DC characters slated to appear in the show, with original characters kept to a minimum. They have no restrictions or embargoes on who can appear in the show, so any DC universe character can and likely will appear in Young Justice.

Robin will be the Dick Grayson version, and Kid Flash will be Wally West. They’re starting over the entire DC animated universe with this show, and adding some original touches to characters. Superboy will be Conner Kent (eventually), but will start the show as a clone of Superman only 16 weeks old.

Young Justice announced voice cast will be as follows: Jesse McCarthy as Robin, Jason Spizak as Kid Flash, Khary Payton as Aqualad, Nolan North as Superboy, Danica McKellar as Miss Martian, and Stephanie Lemelin as Artemis.

A preview episode will air on Cartoon Network in November 2010, the rest of the 26 episode season will follow in Spring 2011.

MOTU Classics Roboto’s shoulders are backwards

Smarmy Prick

Take a deep breath, MOTU fans. Apparently, MOTU Classics Roboto’s shoulders are backwards. And they’ve been like that for months and noone noticed until today. Today, being 4 days before Roboto is set to go on sale at MattyCollector.com.

The images in this post are comparing pictures from SDCC 2010 to photos of the original Roboto figure, on which, this Classics figure is based. The Four Horsemen, who sculpted the new figure, are known for their attention to detail. Based on this, the way this quality control error was found was by the mismatching of the circuitry.

Now that we have established the facts, lets take a moment to reflect. This happened once before on the first release of He-Man, the first figure in the line. I pointed out the differences in the video comparison I made of the original release and the corrected re-issue. Many who bought the original figure swapped the shoulders themselves. This won’t be possible with Roboto because the arms are not removable from the new torso.

Some of the Club Eternia subscribers are very upset because they were asked to blindly pay for figures without knowing what they would be getting. Now they are being forced to accept a figure with known quality control problems. Many who chose not to subscribe and instead to purchase their figures individually on the site have stated that they will be skipping this release due to the newfound error, in addition to the statement that Roboto’s reissue will have both hands removable (though I cannot find where this has been stated). In the MattyCollector “Ask Matty” forum, someone suggested bumping Roboto to a later month to fix this error and to use one of the bonus figures to fill the slot in the meantime. This is the scenario exactly described for the existence of the bonus figures. It seems pretty late in the game for that though. I’m sure that these misassembled figures are already in Digital River’s warehouse waiting to be shipped to subscribers. If comments in forums and blogs are any indication, many subscribers will be returning their Robotos to make it clear to Mattel that this is not acceptable.

On one hand, noone noticed it for over three months, on the other, that second detachable hand sure is a neat incentive to wait for the reissue.

Bumblebee Camaro gets in real accident while filming Transformers 3

News has been flying across the tubes, that during the filming of a scene for Transformers 3, a real police vehicle raced through the set on his way to an emergency, unwittingly putting himself in the path of the Camaro.

3rd St SW is closed for most of the week for filming, but that doesn’t prevent emergency vehicles from traveling through the area. An ambulance passed through the set shortly before the Autobot convoy went into action. A District police SUV trailing the ambulance less than a minute too late collided with the custom Chevrolet that’s used for Bumblebee in vehicle mode. The damage to the front end of Bumblebee is massive and its likely they’ll have to use a double to finish filming this week. No word on if either driver is injured but it appeared to be a relatively low speed hit. Crew quickly covered the stunt car, but not before many tourists and film fans caught photos and video of Bumblebee in bits.

Director Michael Bay was likely uninvolved with the accident, as neither car went airborne or exploded.

Rhys Ifans joins Spider-man reboot as unnamed villain

Marvel.com had news that Rhys Ifans will be joining the cast of the forthcoming Spider-man film from Sony. He will be playing the part of the villain, but it is not clear just who that is currently. You may remember Rhys as the kicker from the Replacements among many other films.

From the article:

The filmmakers prefer to not reveal which character Ifans will be playing in the forthcoming film.

Webb added, “What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys’ incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character.”

Based on this clue, I’m taking a wild stab in the dark and calling that the villain is going to be one Dr. Curt Connors. Have a guess of your own? Leave it in the comments below!

Here’s the current line-up for who’s on board with this film so far:
Spider-Man/Peter Parker: Andrew Garfield
Gwen Stacy: Emma Stone
Villain: Rhys Ifans
Screenplay: James Vanderbilt
Director: Marc Webb (punny Webb of Spider-man jokes go here)
Producers: Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin

The film is expected to start production in December and release to audiences on July 3rd, 2012.
