Launching Monday was the teaser for the trailer for the upcoming film Total Recall. It’s not a teaser for the film, but rather a teaser for the trailer itself which will premiere on Sunday. I didn’t even know this teaser was going to be released! Movie fans should have been advised of this ahead of time. In it, Will Ferrell reprises the role of Ron Burgundy from his 2004 star making film, “Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy” and after playing some jazz flute an insulting Conan, he announces Paramount Pictures has agreed to finally make a sequel. For several years, director Adam McKay and Ferrell had been trying to get a follow up made, but couldn’t get a deal in spite of the cult status of the character.

Other stars from “Anchorman” such as Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, and Steve Carell have gone on to much greater success since the 2004, and Will Ferrell has become one of the most powerful men in comedy. Given McKay and Carell also hyped this appearance on twitter, it is likely that most of the cast and crew will reunite for the sequel.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are defined by 4 key characteristics, as their name implies. They’re teenagers, meaning they are aged between 13 and 19 earth years old. They’re mutants, meaning their origin is that they have mutated DNA, mostly likely to add DNA from one organism into another. They’re ninja, meaning they were trained in Japanese martial arts. Finally they’re turtles, meaning they’re either turtles mutated to be more like people, or people mutated to be more like turtles.

Enter Michael Bay, and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies to be released in December 2013. In a statement made at a Nickelodeon Upfront a few days ago, he was speaking about the movie, as the producer of the film, and mentioned that they would be … aliens.

Disney’s John Carter is a film that’s based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’s “A Princess of Mars”. Or is it? The film deviates quite a bit from the source material, so fans of it should certainly check out the John Carter novels if they’re looking for a good read. The movie is a great amount of fun. The fantastic world of Mars, known to it’s natives as Barsoom, is a rich world full of amazing creatures, people, places and technology that will delight and entertain audiences of all ages.

This is a science fiction story, but based on a work so old that we’d barely started flying airplanes and driving automobiles when it was written, so it gives a perspective not seen in a modern work. The fantasy world seen in the movie, and within the pages of the John Carter stories, is one born not out of intentional ignorance of other planets as much modern science fiction is, but rather from a time when we really did not know much of anything of worlds outside of our own. The world of Barsoom is based off of ideas that astronomers from the early 20th century had about Mars. It’s not spaceships, computers and laser guns because this was all conceived in a world without knowledge of such things.
