Nobou Uematsu & Earthbound Papas to be at MAGfest 10

If you’re a regularly Poweteer and have perused our forum in the past few months, you might know that a few of the Powet staff will be attending this coming year’s MAGfest X – a convention for gamers and lovers of gaming music.

Well, we just got one more awesome reason to attend the festival this year. Father of the Final Fantasy music genre, Nobou Uematsu will be the featured guest at MAGfest this year, along with his newest band, Earthbound Papas. (since The Black Mages disbanded some time ago)

Uematsu joins a very wide variety of guests to appear at this year’s MAGfest, along with the likes of AVGN, ScrewAttack, Extra Credits and a slew of other guests and bands. (sorry, no Minibosses this year) So if you’ve got a little time in early January and are in the Baltimore area, check this out and look us up!

Grand Theft Auto V World Premier First Trailer

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Single Player Review

Note: This review only covers the single player ‘story’ mode of Uncharted 3. Minor story spoilers follow.

“Admit it, you love all this as much as I do.”

Nathan Drake is back. The third installment in Naughty Dog and Sony’s Uncharted series is titled “Drake’s Deception” but its as much about finding the truth for the characters as anything else.

The opening scene isn’t quite the bizarre event that the train wreck in Uncharted 2 was, but it will get you back in the action quickly. Nate and his partner Victor Sullivan are in London, trading Sir Francis Drake’s ring for a briefcase full of cash when the whole deal goes bad. You’ll end up in a bar fight, which will allow you to control the series’ new overhauled fighting system. Now an elaborate mix of punches, counters, and throws with detailed animations to enjoy with each hit, this is a satisfying way to start up since I don’t think the gun play is Uncharted’s strong suit. Voltron Video Game Trailer

THQ is bringing retro flavor to Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network this November with “Voltron: King Zarkon Returns” video game.

Interspersed with footage from the original series, gamers will find themselves able to play either online in seamless 1- to 5-player co-op or offline in 1- or 2-player co-op. Players will select a Lion based on a number of strengths, resistances and elemental attacks, and will battle it out on Planet Arus against familiar Robeasts.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade (800 Microsoft Points) and PlayStation Network ($9.99).

Live-Action Phoenix Wright Movie in the Works

If you hadn’t heard already, Japanese director Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, IZO) has been put on to head a live-action Phoenix Wright movie that’s currently under post-production in Japan and looking at a February 11th release date.

The trailer is a bit confusing to watch due to the Japanese being yelled during the trailer’s running, but the footage itself looks spot-on, as any Phoenix Wright gamer will no-doubtly attest to. No word on localization in here in the states any time in the future, but given the game’s popularity on these shores, as well as the directorial credits, it’s not hard to think that we may someday see the movie officially released to American audiences. (at least you can hope for subbing sooner rather than later, no doubt)

Behinds The Scenes of Uncharted 3

Playstation just shared a few minutes of the production of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. If you haven’t seen stuff like this before, its very interesting. The voice actors for Nate, Sully, and others are also filmed and motion captured to provide the actual movement for their in-game characters.

A new cinematic trailer for the upcoming Diablo 3 game was featured at this weekend’s Blizzcon 2011. In it, we’re treated to a very pretty get gritty look at the mysterious Black Soulstone that will apparently be playing a large part in the upcoming game, which is now in beta.
