While it has not been officially confirmed, the internets are buzzing that JJ Abrams will direct the new Star Wars movie. The seventh in the franchise, the movie will take place after the events of Return of the Jedi. Word has it that Ben Affleck was also in contention to direct, but Kathleen Kennedy, the producer, was courting Mr. Abrams as the top choice.
Roberto Orci, co-writer of the recent and forthcoming Star Trek films, seems to think the news is quite true.
He commented on his twitter account.
“@naddycat: @boborci Any chance you can confirm/deny about Mr Abrams directing Star Wars? So far just a lot of “sources say”…” True!
Abrams’ latest film, Star Trek: Into Darkness, is set to be released to theaters May 17. Reaction is mixed. While many are excited, others are apprehensive that the Star Trek director will helm the film for the main franchise competitor, Star Wars.
Who knows, maybe we’ll see Keri Russel as an extra…

A group by the name of Deep Fried Figures has made a new line of PVC figures called Mechawhales. As you might imagine, it features giant whales in equally large mecha suits. They are about 3.5 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide featuring articulated shoulders, wrists, and tail (fluke). They are rather pricey at $45 a piece, but if that video above (and the one after the jump) doesn’t sell you on them, I’m not sure what will. You have to give credence to the creativity and ridiculous concept of this project.

Blizzard has released the HD opening cinematic for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm.
In it, we are treated to an epic Zerg invasion of a Terran planet.
The game is scheduled for release on March 12, 2013. It will continue the story where it left off in the last game, StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty and will someday be completed by a third release that will be more Protoss-centric.
I, for one, am already planning the purchase of a new harddrive to contain all of excitement and gameplay that this title promises. Are you planning on picking up the game? Let us know in the comments!

We, here, at Powet.TV bring you only the finest news in entertainment. Thats why we needed to share this official announcement.
TakaraTomy, the Japanese company that works with Hasbro to bring us Transformers, has posted a pdf file on their site (available here). This pdf is nothing short of a papercraft couch for your Arms Micron figures. These are the mini-con figures that have been released with the Transformers Prime figures in Japan. They are little robots or animals that turn into weapons for the larger figures to use.
Apparently, the couch comes in two flavors; Autobot and Decepticon.
Choose wisely, Poweteers. Choose wisely.
Let us know in the comments what other pieces of household furniture you’d like to see officially released from Takara!
Count me in for a kitchen sink. Megatron just finished dinner and Starscream has some dishes to clean.

I started this column because I really enjoy the diversity and potential for artistic creativity in movie posters (even if most nowadays are a photoshop disaster), but I have received a few requests to start including a movie trailer for each of these posts. Starting today, I will be including it after the jump for anyone who wants more info on the movie.

Not long ago a petition was created on the ‘We The People’ site setup by the White House to garner suggestions for legislation and direction in the governing over the nation. Essentially this site was created to help give constituents a further influence in their own government. Any petition garnering greater than 25,000 signatures will guarantee an official White House response. The petition in question was to secure funding for and being construction of a Death Star.
By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense
Thanks to the viral nature of a request like this, it took very little time for the petition to receive sufficient signatures for an official White House reponse. That response has been posted with plenty of Star Wars references to make it even better.
Continue on, dear reader, for the official White House response, Darth Vader response and DeathStarPR response.
