Guitar Hero III: New vids, Demo Coming

Thoughts arrive like butterflies, yeah

Here’s a video of Pearl Jam’s “Even Flow” in Guitar Hero III. It amazes me how these games manage to pack more notes that are required to play it on an actual guitar, but they gotta add something for the higher difficulty levels! More videos at Gametrailers, including PAT BENATAR.
Nathan Smart tells me that the official Xbox 360 Magazine contains a demo with several songs and should be on newsstands soon. With GHIII less than 2 weeks away, its a short term stop gap to rock, but 360 owners with 10 bucks to blow on a demo magazine should be pleased.

Dead Fantasy I

About 6 months ago, I posted a video here called Haloid, which features a unique fight between two very well known video game characters. The creator, Monty Oum, has posted a follow up, this time mashing together the ladies of Dead Or Alive and Final Fantasy. Pure fan service, but the CG work and fight choreography is as good if not better than last time. Best of all, he plans on doing more chapters. Amazing its all done by one man. As I said before: Someone needs to give this guy a job now.

Thundercats Gets Director From Gears Of War

coleandliono.jpg
I guess I just knew a Thundercats movie was on the way, but now we’ve got a director. Instead of going the Transformers route and trying to be as realistic as possible, they’re taking the more sensible TMNT path, with stylized CG action for the outlandish characters and settings.

This is not to say we won’t see some kick ass action. Jerry O’Flaherty, the art director from Epic Games survival horror/tactical shooter Gears Of War has accepted the job as director of the first Thundercats theatrical outing with fellow newcomer Paul Sopocy as screenwriter. I think its fair to say Lion-o and Mumm-Ra should have a pretty brutal sword fight at some point.

If you’re unfamiliar with Thundercats, check out their wikipedia page and try not to laugh too hard. Yes. Man sized cats from the planet Thundera fight a Mummy and his mutant buddies. It was really cool when I was kid though, trust me.

Star Trek Casting Updates

1701
Earlier this week they cast relative newcomer Chris Pine as Captain James T Kirk, and Eric Bana as the villain named Nero.

And while these are huge announcements, they’re not this big–

Simon Pegg as Mr Scott.

Thats right. Shaun Of The Dead will be Scotty. John Cho (Harold of “Harold and Kumar”) will be Sulu.

I’ll let the comments section take over from here. I’m sure you’ve all got opinions. Share them!

Sonic Finally Confirmed For Brawl

sonic_071010a-l.jpg
Sonic The Hedgehog has been the most wanted character not just for Super Smash Bros Brawl, but even going back to Super Smash Bros Melee. The second Sega became a 3rd party publisher for Nintendo, people knew it was possible. And soon Sega is publishing Sonic and Mario at the Olympics, which is fine for a fair competition. But the one wanted is to see Sonic fight Nintendo classic characters hand to hand, thus bringing to life the console wars from generations ago.

And now its confirmed

On the not-so-bright side, the Japanese date for the game has been revealed as January 24, with the US release now stating “TBD” instead the previously announced December 3rd. A delay would be uncomfortably, but not unexpected. Nintendo has a consistent track record of piling on delays to get the game RIGHT. At least we’ll have The Olympics this year.

Thanks Robbie!

Confessions Of A Superhero

Here’s a nice independant documentary about the lives of out of work actors who dress up as comic characters. No indication of a wide release, but keep and eye on your local art house.

Warner Bros Bans Female Leads, Boycott Ensues

banwb.jpg
DeadlineHollywood reports that Warner Bros studios, based solely on some low numbers for the Jodie Foster movie “The Brave One” and Nicole Kidman’s “The Invasion” is putting an immediate ban on any movies with female leads.

Sure Hollywood has always been sexist, but this is seriously a new low. The Movie Blog does an excellent job pointing out that movies with men in the lead bomb too. Specifically the Kevin Bacon revenge movie “Death Sentence” did much worse than the similarly themed “The Brave One.” John Campea of The Movie Blog is calling for a boycott of Warners and is challenging other sites to join him.

On a personal note I think this policy is so stupid and arbitrary, that I’ll be joining up with this boycott. You can forget about me reporting on any Dark Knight or Justice League stuff. I’m not even going to finish watching the Superman: Doomsday DVD I already bought and opened. I won’t watch the CW television network (Ok, so that ones going to be easy). I’d encourage anyone who cares about fairness and equality to leave a comment and don’t give a dime to WB until they publicly retract this policy. Yes that means you should not buy DC comics. My views are not necessarily the views of Powet.TV as a whole, but that because we’re independent and no one voice speaks for all.

GI Joe Movie Script Turned In

dreadnoks.jpg
We’ve already heard quite about all the changes they’ve made to The GI JOE team for the movie, and while they’re cold to fans who grew up with the team, its something Hollywood feels they need to do and we can’t change it.
Thankfully, Cobra The Enemy seems to be making the transition to the screen seemlessly. IESB reports.

The villains of course are Destro, the Baroness and Cobra but we have been told that Cobra Commander will have more of a “Emperor Palpatine”-like character arch. The Joes will be mainly facing Destro and the Baroness.

Helping Cobra will be one of the coolest groups of characters from the G.I. Joe comics and cartoons…the Dreadnoks.

The mercenaries known as Dreadnoks lead by Zartan including his brother and sister Zarana and Zandar will be the hired muscle that Cobra will use in its day to day operations. Zartan is known for his martial arts ability as well as his mastery of disguise. Additionally, through genetic manipulation, Zartan is able to change the color of his skin to blend in with his surroundings.

Thank you screenwriter Stuart Beattie, for preserving the incredible awesome that is Cobra. His draft also included Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow as focal characters and reports that the team is still based in the US. The Dreadnoks were always some of the better characters from the GI Joe canon, serving both as an unpredictable threat and a great source of comic relief. They’ll be a welcome inclusion in this movie.
