Star Trek Trailer

The trailer showed up over the weekend in front of the latest 007 film, but those that want to see it again or missed it in theaters can watch it on Apple’s movie trailer site

Doesn’t look like any of the usual video sites are hosting a good quality embedded version, but the link above will get you HD versions of the trailer.

Now I love Star Trek — LOVE IT. But this trailer does something Star Trek has never done, which is look exciting. I’ve always cared about the drama and suspense of Star Trek, but the action has always been lacking, its best moments carried out by older captains and slow space fights. This new Star Trek is going for Star WARS fans, and that cool. As long as they stay true to those characters and this universe, it’ll be a thing worth celebrating for Star Trek fans. Engage.

Watchmen Trailer #3

I’ll admit to being quite the geek contrarian. I never read the original Watchmen book, and quite frankly was disappointed in 300, which had a similar level of geek excitement. The last trailer, with the use of a frankly horrible Smashing Pumpkins song originally from the movie Batman & Robin (not the most wise association for a comic movie) had me convinced Watchmen was nothing to get worked up about.

This trailer hasn’t quite sold me on the film yet, but if you’re already excited, then you’ll go nuts. It is a much better trailer and actually contains hints at the story, which is nothing I got from the old ones.

Obama & McCain in Presidential Material Comics

The latest installment in Powet Editor Zac Shipley‘s look into Geek Culture in Madison, WI.

Westfield Comics counts votes for Obama and McCain with Presidential Material from IDW

One hero struggles with identity, searching for a cause in life, coming to grips with how he can bring hope to the world. Another hero stands tall, looking to maintain a long legacy of service, realizing only after losing his freedom how important it is to him. They are not the costumed, super-powered titans found only in the pages of comic books, though, but candidates for President of the United States.

Star Trek Cast Photos

A lot of new Star Trek photos hit the net today on a variety of sites, but I think this one is the coolest. From left to right we have Chekov, Kirk, Scott, McCoy, Sulu, and Uhura.
Slashfilm has links for the rest.
Do they look the part? The uniforms take some liberties (though Uhura is still in a short skirt), and obviously the actors aren’t dopplegangers for the old cast, but I have hope this Trek will revitalize the franchise.
Star Trek from director JJ Abrams will release May 2009. Trailer is due soon.

Halo 3 Recon drops Fall 2009

At Tokyo Game Show Bungie and Microsoft announced their next collaboration in the Halo universe. Called “Halo 3 Recon” its a Halo 2/3 Sidestory. A totally new campaign and a new hero, introduced in the above video. Could this be the rumored ODST tactical shooter we’ve been hearing about? Probably. Four Player online co-op, Multiplayer, Save Films, and Forge are all promised for the game. More details will be coming soon.

Personally I love that the Halo universe is expanding beyond John 117’s helmet, especially into different types of games (IE, Halo Wars), but the music in this trailer seems… familiar….

Chinese Democracy on November 23

“Shackler’s Revenge” from Rock Band 2

The unbelievable and unreal is about the occur. Guns N Roses will release their first album of new material since 1991 on November 23, 2008, exclusive to Best Buy. The only original member is Axl Rose, with fellow founding members Slash and Duff Mckagan moving to other projects long ago. Those hoping for the retro lineup should grab their debut album “Appetite For Destruction” when its re-released on vinyl LP on October 28.
