Star Trek Trailer

The trailer showed up over the weekend in front of the latest 007 film, but those that want to see it again or missed it in theaters can watch it on Apple’s movie trailer site

Doesn’t look like any of the usual video sites are hosting a good quality embedded version, but the link above will get you HD versions of the trailer.

Now I love Star Trek — LOVE IT. But this trailer does something Star Trek has never done, which is look exciting. I’ve always cared about the drama and suspense of Star Trek, but the action has always been lacking, its best moments carried out by older captains and slow space fights. This new Star Trek is going for Star WARS fans, and that cool. As long as they stay true to those characters and this universe, it’ll be a thing worth celebrating for Star Trek fans. Engage.

Oh, hell yes.

They totally got me with the opening scene. “What the crap is this!” I screamed. But I knew something was up as soon as I saw his obviously-contrived jacket. I can’t believe I missed the huge (fusion) reactor in the background until the next shot.

The guy doing the voiceover during the Kirk part is Bruce Greenwood, who plays Christopher Pike. The second voice might be Sarek’s.

The parallels to Star Wars are obvious, except instead of a moisture farmer he’s an actual farmer from Iowa.

Man, there are SO many esoteric details to geek out over. I agree, this movie actually has me excited to get into the world of Trek again.

I was hardcore for TNG and DS9, but ever since those ended I’ve had zero interest in the franchise. I can never go back, but this movie definitely has my attention.

When Manny Coto came on as producer in the fourth season of Enterprise, it got MUCH better. Previous producer Brannon Braga had been responsible for the entirety of Voyager and the first three seasons of Enterprise. Coto was able to do more with his one season than Braga had ever done in his TEN YEARS at the helm.
