25 Years of Transformers

I had no idea the comic was first. I probably first saw the show when it first aired. I remember watching that show and collecting the toys when I was wee.

my first contact with Transformers was when I was 3 y.o., watching TV, also I remember specially Optimus, Bumble Bee, Megatron and Starscream (being the last the most funny for me).

We need at least 25 more years of Transformers 🙂

I was 6 years old when The Transformers made their debut. There was an older kid I knew that introduced me to them. I can’t remember which figure I got first, but I do remember Mirage being my favorite.

My first action figure was Springer

My first experience with the bastards was about a year before everyone else.
The K B Toys in the mall my mom worked at had tons of odd not quite bootleg toys.
I had Macross Valkyries for months before Robotech came out.
I had tons of those Microman toys.
With the little tiny crappy micromen that you could put inside the vehicles.
The guys that I had became send away figures a few months after the shit broke out.
Some blue and red jet guy, a cool yellow and black drill machine and some other shit that I don’t remember that well.
Those 2 were my faves.
I was all over that comic when it came out.
I got to cool to a real comic book store for the first time, to find that issue. Till then I had no idea a store for comics existed.
And I missed the first episode of the cartoon when it came on.
I just had to go outside and play.

That shit ended real quick.
Instant couch potato.

Hell, I remember running over to my friends house like I was on fire, to ask if he saw the commercial for the comic book.
That shit blew my mind.
“And then this robot turned ino a gun and started shooting stuff! It was awesome!”

being that i wasent born till 87 i missed all this shit when it was new

I had yet to be born… I was a mere 16 days too late.

I was nearly two when the comic came out (it was 11 days before my birthday) in 1984 and didn’t get my first taste of Transformers until a year later. My first transforming toy was an Ertl Powertron that my grandfather bought me. I loved it. That led to me receiving my first Transformer which was likely Huffer but could have been Tracks. The other of the two followed and by that time I was hooked on Transformers without having ever seen the cartoon or read the comic. I did eventually see some of the toon by season 3 if not late season two. It amazes me how attached I got to the brand while having hardly any exposure to the fiction. Case in point, I didn’t know the animated movie even existed until 1998!

I think Optimus and Megatron were my first ones and I got them for Christmas.

Favorite? Really tough to decide looking back, but I think it was Optimus when it started. Remember doing a painting in Kindergarten. Started reading the comic regularly when the Decepticon Micromasters first showed up.

I already had several Diaclone toys, they were always in the Montgomery Ward catalogs. Red Sunstreaker, etc.

TF made their early 84 debut and I got Windcharger, Brawn, Skywarp and Soundwave right off the bat. I was 10 at the time and always had been a robot nut.

Several months later the comic and cartoon hit and it was fanaticism from that point on.

I saw the cartoon first in segments on the Bozo Show on WGN, I would watch the segment and then go catch the bus. Though I’m pretty sure I was aware of them before this. though the time line is a little fuzzy. This would have been fall of 84. I was in 7th grade. I’m pretty sure I was aware of the toys and had one. Sun Streaker. Before them I also had multiple micronauts which I thought were about the coolest thing going, so I was primed for them when they came out. unfortunately this was also the time I started getting into computers, so birthday and christmas presents were computer related so I really didn’t get that many of the original toys.

I don’t remember when the show finally came to WGN in it’s own slot. probably not till some time in 85.
