Liv Tyler to Play Betty Ross in The Incredible Hulk

Liv TylerFollowing news of Ed Norton cast as Bruce Banner, we now have news that Liv Tyler has been cast as Betty Ross, a role which had been filled by Jennifer Connelly in the previous Hulk movie. Adding this to the Lord of the Rings on her resume is really giving her some solid geek-cred.

According to Marvel, “As Betty Ross, Tyler will take on the lead female role. Ross is a scientist and has been Bruce Banner’s key ally in the quest to rid him of the Hulk. Bruce’s condition has immensely complicated their longtime romance, and has finally forced Betty to try to put the past behind her. The new movie’s story unfolds when the pursuit for The Hulk – the world’s most misunderstood, primal force of fury – heats up, finding Bruce Banner on the run attempting to cure his condition before his pursuers capture him. This chase is something that Betty cannot ignore – sweeping her right back into Bruce’s life and the heart-pounding action that follows.”

So, Liv Tyler as a love interest? Great! Liv Tyler as a scientist? Well, a that’s a little more questionable. What do you think about this casting decision? Leave a comment below!

Sega To Make Marvel Video Games

Marvel Video Games
Sega and Marvel just set up a multi-year partnership to make babies video games based on the Hulk, Thor, and Captain America. The press release says we should expect these games for “console, handheld and PC platforms,” though no timetable was mentioned, other than loosely being set to come out around when the corresponding movies do. (Cap and Thor are currently planned for ’09, with Incredible Hulk for ’08.)

The agreement got set up after Marvel decided they were pleased with Sega’s early development work on the upcoming Iron Man game – not the surest way to gauge a game’s success, but here’s hoping it works out for them. After all, no one wants to smite some bad guys with Mighty Mjolnir more than I do. And if we’re really lucky, maybe they’ll even take a few notes from Hulk’s most recent run in the video game world.

Edward Norton is The Incredible Hulk

ednortonhulk.jpg Breaking news at Variety: Edward Norton has been cast as Bruce Banner in the new movie based on the Marvel Comics character The Incredible Hulk. Bruce Banner, as you may well know, is the man who is also The Hulk, a giant unstoppable creature triggered and controlled only by rage.

Norton takes up the reins from Eric Bana, who starred in the Ang Lee directed The Hulk in 2003. This new movie, as has been stated and re-stated is not a sequel or in anyway related. Marvel Studios got the rights back from Universal and is moving forward with a more traditional vision for the film.

So what do you think? Edward Norton is certainly a great actor, and though he hasn’t been in too many huge movies lately American History X and Fight Club more than prove his worth. Leave us a comment!

NYCC Day 1 Rundown

New York Comic-ConThe New York Comic-Con reached the end of its first day, and there’s been a flurry of newsbits, largely focusing on World War Hulk for Marvel, and Countdown for DC. Here’s the rundown:

MARVEL:

  • World War HulkWorld War Hulk will bring us a number of minis including World War Hulk (this being the main series)…
  • World War Hulk: X-Men, written by Cristos Gage, art by Andrea DiVito – In it, the Hulk hunts for Professor X, despite (because of?) the fact that Xavier wasn’t there at the meeting where they decided to boot the Hulk to space.
  • World War Hulk: Frontline – This will be very much like Civil War: Frontline, only I imagine the quality-of-storytelling gap between the two won’t be nearly so vast this time around. Again, it will be written by Paul Jenkins with an army of artists at hand.
  • World War Hulk: Gamma Corps & World War Hulk: Young Avengers are also announced, but lacking details.
  • New Thor ImageThe new Thor series will launch in July of this year. JMS is still on as writer, with Oliver Coipel on art.
  • As has been announced previously, a New Warriors book will be coming out, starting in June. Writer will be Kevin Grevioux, art by Paco Medina.
  • MarvelousNews.com has images up of Spider Man 3 movie figures, Fantastic Four 2 movie figures, Spider-Man 3 Minimates, Marvel Zombies Minimates, Marvel Legends Icons Wave 2, and the Hasbro Marvel Legends Wave 3. Not pictured are the previously announced X-Men III Colossus, WWII Captain America, WWII Bucky, and a Hydra Soldier.

DC:

  • WW3 - DCThere’s really only 5 big points to hit on from the DC panel from today, and they can all be capsulated in image form. Images mirrored from Newsarama’s coverage.

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends in package

planethulk.jpgToys News International is showing off some of the first wave of Marvel Legends under the direction of Hasbro. While a few fans have expressed distaste for the future of this line, I’m going on record as saying Planet Hulk looks cool.

See the gallery of Emma Frost, Ultimate Iron Man, Banshee, Planet Hulk and Hercules here: Hasbro Marvel Legends Series 1

One thing I think all can agree on, the new bubble packaging looks really nice. Its a big departure from the rather rectangular boxes Legends has has for years now, but its a lot more vivid and eye catching. Now it appears we’re losing the pack-in comic book, but we’re gaining a much better logo.

Ultimately we’re going to have to get these in hand before we can really tell whether Hasbro has improved or doomed this line. Either way, distribution is about to get a lot better and we’ll have to chase a lot less variants.

Thanks Josh!

Cream of the Comics – 10/31/2006

Incredible Hulk #100 - CoverThe Incredible Hulk #100
Written by Greg Pak, art by Carlo Pagulayan

What more can be said about this issue? It’s not like we haven’t talked about it before. And tomorrow, it’s finally here! To reiterate – We launch headlong into the last leg of Planet Hulk, an excellent and exciting story that you need to be reading already, and we also get a Civil War connection in the backup story drawn by the awesome Gary Frank. AND, there are reprints. Honestly, God only knows which issues are being reprinted in this now though – Reports are saying it’s only #152 and #300 getting reprinted. I’ve given up on believing what’s being said about that part – when the book’s in my hands, that’s when I’ll know for sure.

That said, enjoy the preview pages, now with text!
