Iron Man 2 Game Intro Movie

Some time ago we found out that Sam Jackson and Don Cheadle would lend voices to the Iron Man 2 video game. I guess what I didn’t expect is that the game would not feature Robert Downey Jr as the title character. I’m fairly certain the game based on the first movie from Sega did have RD Jr. And actually watching this video, Rhodey only has one line so its hard to tell if its Cheadle, and Nick Fury has enough lines to completely rule out Sam Jackson. Are these placeholder voices, or did Sega/Marvel lose the actors in the last month and a half?

Anyway, the likenesses are good, so if you’ve been dying to see Don Cheadle rendered by a game console, this is your shot. The game apparently takes cues from the movie, but doesn’t include any actual story from it. Hopefully it won’t be too bad, Sega’s been promising us to expect more than the first.

Lost Classics: Ranger X (Sega Genesis)

Ranger_XEver wanted to play as a badass in a suit of armor? Sega’s Ranger X gives players that chance. Taking control of Ranger X, players battle against alien invaders. You have several weapons at your disposal, and many of them can recharge in brightly lit areas. Also your power suit allows you to hover for a limited time.

Oh, and there is a motorcycle as well! It moves and fires independently of Ranger X, but he can board it at any time to take advantage of its separate shielding. The game’s graphics do a good job of pushing the system’s hardware to its limits, and the game provides a good challenge. Ranger X is one of those games which does something different with the standard shooter genre, and should be enjoyed by Genesis owners. Hopefully it won’t be much longer before this shows up on the Virtual Console.

Overclocked’s Quest for Sonic 4

nullApparently what started out as a little comment on the Twitter page of video game music icons Overclocked Remix has turned into a little quest for the members of the audio community. After being noticed by a gaming new blog, Press the Buttons, OCR decided that they indeed liked the idea of being put in charge of recording the soundtrack for the newly-dubbed Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Overclocked is no stranger to gaming soundtracks. They produced the remixed album for the Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix game released last year. It wouldn’t be that far off for the seasoned veterans of the community to pull out some original tunes inspired by the older Sonic games. However, even if Sega decided it might be a good idea, OCR might have to wait until Episode 2 was put into production, bow that Episode 1 is already slated for a release later this year.

Check out the Twitter Hype.

Project Needlemouse – Sega’s Challenge

250px-ProjectneedlemouseThere’s been a ton of news recently that’s been thrown around about Project: Needlemouse, the codename for the newest Sonic the Hedgehog game in the works that is banking on the claim that it is going to be a 2D game that throws back to the days of Sonic on the Genesis. Concept art for badniks have been flowing out from SEGA’s blog. They’re also issuing a challenge to their fans….

$20 Game of the Week: Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection (PS3, Xbox 360)

SUGCDid we really need another Sega Genesis compilation, especially when most of these games are available on Virtual Console/Xbox Live Arcade/Playstation Network Store? When it’s this good, ABSOLUTELY. While the lineup is similar to 2006’s Sega Genesis Collection, there are several games from that disc that were left off and there are many games here that weren’t on the previous compilation. With well over 40 games, the disc spans the entire history of the Sega Genesis and it includes the classics (Sonic, Streets of Rage, Shinobi), some lesser known hits (Beyond Oasis, Ristar, Comix Zone), and the occasional clunker (Sonic 3D Blast, Flicky, Bonanza Bros). There is a huge amount of hidden features, including interviews and developers, art and even Arcade and Sega Master System games. There are numerous options for tweaking the graphics, and you can arrange the games alphabetically. While it’s cool to download hits, this disc is still the best value for your dollar. Sega if you’re reading this, now that we got plenty of Genesis games, please give us a Sega Saturn compilation. I’ve got the burning desire to play some Panzer Dragoon.

$20 Game of the Week: The House of the Dead – Overkill (Wii)

overkillIn the days of the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, the House of the Dead provided players with zombie-blasting thrills long before zombies became cool. Fast forward to now, with the Wiimote making it easy for light gun rail shooters to make a comeback of sorts, with games such as Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Dead Space Extraction. What better time for Sega to reintroduce the House of the Dead to the masses? Of course with the popularity of games such as Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising, Sega had to insure that the new HOTD game wouldn’t be just another ‘me-too’ zombie shooter (especially after Uwe Boll’s misguided attempt to squeeze a 90 minute movie out of a game that can be completed in 20, and the forgettable HOTD 4). What better way to do this than with Grindhouse-inspired facelift?
