Marvel VS Capcom 3 Trailer!

It has been 10 years since we were last taken for a ride, and now it looks like Marvel has finally remembered their characters were best served under the Capcom banner.
Capcom had a big media event last week in Hawaii, but all the games they premiered have been supposed to be secret until today. Even as of this writing, this trailer wasn’t supposed to be out yet. Still, someone who loves to see Hulk smash Chris Redfield uploaded it, and for that we thank you.
The trailer shows MvC3 running on MT Framework, which also powered Street Fighter IV and Capcom vs Tasunoko. Capcom has confirmed it will continue with the over-the-top combo systems of previous VS games and will feature 3-on-3 matches. The official image posted above shows the 6 characters from the trailer and some silhouettes of other popular Marvel and Capcom characters. Captain America, Deadpool, Dr Doom, Super Skrull, Mephisto, Black Widow, Frank West, Felicia, Dante, and Chun-Li are all speculated and likely candidates.

Thanks to MaxCon on our forums for the trailer link. More news about this and other Capcom games should surface today.

UPDATE: Capcom Unity has published the press release! Read it after the jump!

Resident Evil Motorcycle Unveiled

At the CES tradeshow this past weekend, it seems Capcom had a little something to show off to the other exhibitors. In collaboration with Savage Cycles came the creation of the Resident Evil Limited Edition Violator chopper to be unveiled at their Dark Void party at CES in Nevada.

Can’t think of a more kick-ass ride to have for zombie-thrashing. You know, short of an armored car with a cow-catcher.

Powet Alphabet: P is for Playstation One

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.
playstation

When Sony entered the market as a console manufacturer, they began a whole new era of gaming, and much of it was due to the rise of disc-based gaming. Disc based systems at the time were becoming more commonplace due to CDs being easier and cheaper to manufacture. Since they could hold more information than floppy disks and cartridges, it was easy to see why they were becoming increasingly attractive to developers. Even before the Sony, there were already several disc-based systems on the market, although few of them fully utilized the potential of the added storage space and horse power of the medium. The Sega CD for instance, was merely an add-on to the Sega Genesis. Most of its line up either consisted of amped-up versions of Sega Genesis titles, arcade ports, and interactive movies. such as the controversial Night Trap. The Super CD, an add on for the Turbographix-16, had a slightly more impressive lineup (including the highly sought after Dracula X), but it never made it beyond the borders of Japan. The 3DO, which was a standalone system, carried many of the interactive movies that graced the Sega CD, and it also boasted arcade-perfect ports of games such as Samurai Showdown and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. However, its high price tag prevented it from making a huge impact in the marketplace. The Phillips CD-I, just plain sucked.

Around the early 90s, Nintendo wanted to jump into the CD gaming market. Originally, it was Sony who would help them develop the technology that would power the new system. Sony was of course no stranger to gaming. Under the name Sony Imagesoft, they developed and published several games for their soon-to-be competitors (in fact, you may have even seen a couple of them as Lost Classics). However, the deal would fall through due to lawsuits on both sides, and Nintendo opted to go with Phillips instead. That deal would also fall apart, and Nintendo would eventually abandon the concept of a CD based gaming system altogether in favor of cartridge-based the Nintendo 64. It’s because of this reason that many suspect that the Playstation is what Nintendo’s CD system would have been. Regardless of weather or not that rumor was true, it was ironic that Sony, the people slated to work with Nintendo on their new hardware, instead usurped their place as top dog console manufacturer.

$20 Game of the Week: Resident Evil 4 – Wii Edition (Wii)

re4Resident Evil 5 is in stores now. Of course, what new sequel would be complete with a look at one of its predecessors, if for no other reason than to see how far the series has come? When it was released, Resident Evil 4 had forever altered everything that we knew about the series in the same manner that RE 5 is doing now. Gone were the tank like controls and slow pacing, and in their place are fast intense action sequences with an almost arcade-style feel. While I have featured RE4 as a previous $20GOTW, this Wii edition deserves a special mention in its own right, as it pretty much can be considered as the definitive version of Resident Evil 4 thanks to all the content it contains. Don’t worry folks, this will be the last Capcom related $20GOTW/Maximum Letdown/Lost Classics I’ll do for a little while, I promise.

Resident Evil’s new “Chronicles” Game

Right on the heels of Resident Evil 5 being released overseas, and tomorrow here in the states (though some got it sooner), it seems the momentum of the Resident Evil franchise is still running strong and plans to for some time.
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles has been announced for the Wii, and will follow up big brother Umbrella Chronicles as another rail-shooter in terms of gameplay. Darkside Chronicles will be filling in the gaps left by the previous title by exploring the Resident Evil 2 part of the story. As seen, Leon and Claire will make their candid appearances as primary character to control, while other characters and additional story will be shown and explained. Game producer Masachika Kawata also hinted to the inclusion of other game scenarios from the series being explored as well. Code Veronica, anybody?

No release date has been set, as the game’s development has been rumored to not even be halfway done yet, though we do at least have some nice eye candy to show for what has been completed.
