Revoltech Update – Starscream, Hot Rod, Asuka, and more

Revoltech Expo 2007 - Starscream Post Banner

Revoltech Expo 2007 was recently held in Japan. I know what you’re thinking, I didn’t think such a show existed either. Good for us it does. Lots of goodies were unveiled. Among the figures on the display were Transformers Starscream and Hot Rod. (Images from tfw2005.com)

Also on display were a number of new additions to the recently announced FRAULEIN line of female figures. One large standee depicted Asuka Langely Sorhyu from Neon Genesis Evangelion and another female I did not recognize, along with Rei Ayanami whom we already knew about.

FRAULEIN Revoltech revealed

FRAULEIN Revoltech Rei Ayanami Post Banner

Figures.com is reporting that Kaiyodo, makers of the hit japanese toy line Revoltech, will be releasing a subline of female figures starting with the ever-underaged and curiously hot Rei Ayanami of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Description from CoolJapaneseToys:

The FRAÜLEIN REVOLTECH Rei Ayanami stands six inches tall and features multiple articulation points, including a newly developed joint and body system known as E.L.F.. The five innovations of “E.L.F.” are as follow:

1) – The ball & socket joints are hidden inside the torso, imparting an elegant shoulder shape.

2) – The shoulders rotate on all axis, allowing poses never before possible, including folded arms.

3) – The special concealed custom Kaiyodo’s Revolver joints maintain the natural leg shape and posture.

4) – The curved lower pelvis flows smoothly into the leg and creates a natural bikini line.

5) – The ankle Revolver joint clicks comfortably into position for graceful poses.

In addition to this new joint system, FRAÜLEIN REVOLTECH Rei Ayanami will include multiple accessories; the Lance of Longinus, 2 sets of hands and a display base.

FRAÜLEIN REVOLTECH Rei Ayanami will be imported to the U.S. via Organic Hobby in January 2008 with a SRP of $23.00.

Its pretty cool that they threw in the Lance of Longinus as an accessory, not to mention the new joint system. The figure looks amazingly posable. You can bet this line will be popular among anime fans, toy collectors and pedophiles!

Transformers Masterpiece Thundercracker on the horizon

HobbyLink Japan has posted an image in their listing for forthcoming Masterpiece Skywarp of all three original seekers as Masterpiece figures, including a previously unheard of Masterpiece Thundercracker in the top right corner.

If this comes to fruition, count me in. I definitely want all three original seekers. Bring on the coneheads next!

Virtual Bubble Wrap!

PuchiPuchi!
You know you’ve done it before. You get your hands on a piece of bubble wrap, and you can’t help but compulsively begin popping the little bubbles one by one for hell knows how long, or even just twisting the whole thing in a massive fit of rapid-fire popping. It’s one of life’s little pleasures, and now someone is cashing in on the craze.

Bandai has swooped in to capitalize on this wonder with the new PuchiPuchi infinite bubble wrap toy. Designed to feel and sound like real plastic bubble wrap, you can continuously pop the bubbles on these little marvels to your heart’s content. They’ve even thrown in little twists to keep things interesting, such as unique sounds for each 100th pop!

So now, you can annoy the hell out of people around you with constant bubble-popping while also feeding your compulsion with these pocket-sized little toys. Sounds like a sure-win to me.

Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi Suffers Sports Injury

Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi vs. the Alaskan Cruncher
Professional Eater Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi has injured his jaw while training in his sport, an accident which seriously hinders his ability to compete. Yahoo News reports that Kobayashi has jaw arthritis and can only open his mouth the width of a fingertip, an insufficient size for eating hot dogs.

Kobayashi held the world record for hot dog eating, a sport at which no human being could defeat him until 2003 when he faced off against a bear and lost as the “Alaskan Crucher” devoured 50 hot dogs in 2 minutes and 36 seconds. After losing this match he claimed he would train hard and face off against the bear again and win, something which at this point may never happen.

The bear still appears to be in proper health to compete.

Check out this entry on Kobayashi’s blog for more on his injury… if you can read Japanese.

Green Power Ranger Bails on a Cage Fight

Green Power Ranger
“Never escalate a battle unless Rita forces you to.”

Granted Tommy had not joined the Power Rangers when Zordon layed out that and other rules to go by to the Power Rangers when they were first formed but he still knows what being a Power Ranger is about. You don’t use excessive force against an opponent unnecessarily and that’s why when some putties show up they don’t automatically morph and call their Megazords to obliterate them.

Jason David Frank played Tommy Oliver in Power Ranger and was affiliated with the show for the better part of a decade. While best known for being the Green Ranger he’s been all the colours of the rainbow. So with all that experience why is it Tommy pulled out of a planned cage fight he was meant to have this past Saturday?

The Daily Egyptian reports that while Jason David Frank was on hand to sign autographs he bailed on the fight when he learned only boxing was allowed and that it was not mixed martial arts, which is his specialty.

Though it’s not in fitting with the Power Ranger mentality to trounce on someone with less training than you, as the fight would have been, I’m not sure that mentality would also lend to cage fighting.

Regardless this is a dissapointing outcome to a highly anticipated match. I’m looking forward to seeing where this career goes and whether or not he can fit the Dragonzord in that cage.

Thanks to Tigerpaw for helping to track down this information.
