There’s a pretty crazy fan theory going around about Robb Stark’s wife on Game of Thrones called “The Lannister Honeypot”. Since the HBO series is sufficiently different from the source material, the theory is plausible enough to be enticing.

But after watching an episode from the middle of this season’s How I Met Your Mother, I’m convinced “the Lannister Honeypot” is utterly bunk.

May the 4th be with you this Saturday at Free Comic Book Day! Local Comic Shops around the world will be celebrating this unofficial holiday with free comic books, parties, costumes and all around love for comic book characters and stories. At least, thats what they do around here.

Some comic shops put a limit on the number of free books you can get, so its not always easy to choose what books you want on the spot with the crowds waiting for you to move on. And since FCBD is kind of a big deal around these parts of the internet, we decided to put together a guide for all the books that will be available this weekend.

Let me make this clear. I don’t hate this game. It’s not even all that bad. My disappointment in this game comes from two main sources. First of all, I hate zombies. How many more times do I have to see them in every single form of media? Now I like Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead as much as the next man, and I get a kick out of Plants vs Zombies. Lately however, every other game, movie, book, novel, and TV show has a tendency to ram the undead down our throats. If it ain’t about banding together to kill the undead hordes and escape, it’s about survival and scavenging supplies. If it ain’t about survival, it’s about how the living are even more dangerous than the undead. Many times it’s all three. Now I can appreciate when a medium of entertainment can do something different with the medium, i.e Zombies mode in Black Ops or Undead Nightmare in Red Dead Redemption. I kinda hoped Dead Island would do the same. Sadly, besides a few nifty ideas here and there, this game does little.

Along with Superman/Batman, Freddy vs Jason, and Alien vs Predator, Robocop vs Terminator was one of several movie mega-crossovers that were brainstormed during the 90s. Of those four, only AvP and FvJ ended up seeing movie releases while Robocop vs Terminator ended up being a comic book limited series. There were two games loosely based upon the comic, one for Sega, another for Super Nintendo. While the Sega version was known for its blood, the SNES version was known for it’s music and moody atmosphere.

Resident Evil 6 was panned by critics and fans alike. But was it really that bad?

Everyone has that one member of the family they’d rather not talk about. You know the type, they just can’t seem to get their shit together. If they’re not at home all day watching Real Housewives/SportsCenter/Jerry Springer, then they’re out partying and getting inebriated. They’ve been in and out of jail like it’s got a revolving door, they couldn’t hold down a job if they had a 2-ton paper weight, and they’re having more babies than they really can afford.

Then there is that other type of family member that isn’t mentioned, but perhaps mom and dad are being a bit too hard on them. You know the type. They’ve made one bad mistake and are trying their hardest to turn their life around, but the older heads in the clan aren’t making it easy for them. Or maybe it’s the girl in your all white/Asian family that married a black man. Or maybe it’s the gay/lesbian/atheist/Muslim in your Evangelical Christian household. Or they’re a fan of Lebron James and the Miami Heat…..and your family lives in Cleveland.

Well, with video games, it’s kinda like that too. Every great franchise has at least one title that is horrible. Zelda: Wand of Gamelon. Mario is Missing. Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game. Mortal Kombat Advance. Every great franchise also has at least one game that’s not terrible, but for some reason it’s looked down upon compared to others in its franchise. You know, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. Final Fantasy XIII. Silent Hill: The Room. Maybe they had some gameplay issues that bought it down. Or maybe we grown to expect too much of our favorite franchises. Or maybe jaded fanboys were all too happy to pick apart its flaws. Either way, this week’s top 5 celebrates those games that get a little more hate than they should.

In it’s 40 year history, hip hop music has seen many changes, for the better, and for the worse. We’ve seen it go from New York all the way to the West Coast, Down South, Midwest, and even international. Many different artist have left their own mark on the genre, and what was once considered a fad is now one of the most influential forms of music in the world. This 1997 album from Priority records is a testament to hip hop’s influence. This album consists of cover versions of classic rap songs performed by then-top artists, many of which have gone on to become big names in their own right. Some of the album’s standouts include Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s remake of NWA’s Fuck Tha Police, The Wu-Tang Clan’s cover of Run-DMC’s classic Sucka MCs, and Mack 10’s remake of NWA’s Dopeman. I’m not sure if this album is in print anymore, but if you can find a copy, check it out. It would be interesting to see another version of this album with today’s artists. It would be interesting to hear Kendrick Lamar, T.I, and 50 Cent do remakes of classic 80s and 90s hits.

If you’ve never heard the name Junji Ito or read any of his works, then congratulations. You’ve been able to sleep a little more soundly at night.

Ito is a horror manga artist from Japan who revels in delivering his scares with tales of the strange, unnatural and the unexplainable. And copious amounts of body horror. He’s notorious amongst manga fans for his sheer ability to create nightmare fuel with his style of drawing and his love of putting his story’s protagonists through ungodly amounts of hell.

Out of the over one dozen volumes of his horror collection, and several stand-alone stories that can span many chapters, there are some that stand out above the rest, be it for their superior story or their extreme ability to make us squirm.

These are those exemplars in my book.
