Classic Sega Games Coming to TV?

Correction: We incorrectly identified the Michael Hurst who directed The House of the Dead 2 as the Michel Hurst who directed Spartacus and Ash vs the Evil Dead. There are actually 2 Michael Hursts, and the one this article refers to has directed such straight to dvd classics such as Room 6 and The Baby Juice Express.

In 2014, Sega announced plans to expand into TV and Films. We already know that Sega is planning a live action/CG Sonic the Hedgehog film. Now according to Variety, we’ve learned that Sega is planning TV shows based on Altered Beast and Streets of Rage. Stories International, Sega’s multimedia wing, is partnering with Circle of Confusion (Feat the Walking Dead, Powers, Dirk Gently) to create tv shows based upon the two properties. Altered Beast was an arcade game that hit the Genesis as a pack-in game. Playing as a resurrected warrior, players gain the ability to kill demons and absorb their essences to mutate into animal forms. Streets of Rage was a popular beat-em-up franchises starring a group of undercover cops attempting to clean up the city.

Sega is also attempting to bring several other franchises to tv and film, including Virtua Fighter, Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and House of the Dead. Coincidentally, House of the Dead was Sega’s first attempt at bringing its franchises to the screen. Uwe Boll directed the disastrous 2003 film while Michael Hurst (Room 6, The Baby Juice Express) directed 2005’s even worse straight to dvd sequel. After that debacle, Sega can’t go anywhere but up. However when it comes to movies based on games, past experiences haven’t exactly filled us with confidence.

$20 Game of the Week: Ubermosh Vol. 3 (PC)

ubermosh

Some games push the envelope in graphics, gameplay, and storytelling, redefining genres and creating new experiences. Ubermosh Vol. 3 is not one of those games. It’s simply a fun arcade-style game that’s addictive and is good for killing a little bit of time. As a female cyber-demon-samurai-type thingy, you last as long as possible against unending waves of enemies. You can use your sword to cut bullets and pick up various guns that help blow them apart. Vol. 3 is actually the third revision of this game, and currently it is the most refined. The game is available for only $2 on Steam, and it goes on sale all the time. If you’re a fan of old school arcade-style action, check it out.

$20 Game of the Week: The Westport Independent (PC, Linux, mac, iOS, Android)

The-Westport-Independent

Much has been made about the media and the role it plays in daily life. Also, much has been made about censorship and its role in the media. With this past week’s election, many people have different opinions on the media and its role in politics. Double zero double zero’s indie title The Westport Independent takes aim at the press and censorship. Like 2013’s Papers Please, it’s a low resolution title that is easy to play, but makes its players think about a major hot button topic.

Young Justice Season 3 Announced!

yjs3

Young Justice fans, it seems your prayers have been answered. Earlier this week, Warner Brothers animation has announced that production for Season 3 is underway. Although the date and network have yet to be confirmed, Young Justice producers Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman are both returning to the series.

Young Justice, which ran 2 seasons from 2011 – 2013 chronicled the adventures of DC’s sidekicks such as Robin, Superboy, Artemis, and Aqualad as they battled covert threats. Despite the shows fanbase, it was cancelled prematurely due to poor merchandise sales. Since then, fans have been vocal about wanting to see the series return, and with the series being shown on Netflix, more and more DC fans can see what the fuss is about.

With Young Justice returning, this could open the door for more fan-favorite shows to make a return, such as Firefly, Constantine, and Agent Carter.
