MOTU Classics Castle Grayskull is officially a go, minimum order quantity met

MattyCollector has announced that Castle Grayskull has met the minimum order number needed to go ahead with sculpting a real model to eventually go into production next year. With little more than some basic design sheet images and a foam mock-up, fans put their money where their mouths were by pre-ordering the colossal playset at the steep cost of US$250. Had the minimum quantity not been met, the project would not have gone forward much like the Young Justice figures planned for next year that could not muster the pre-order minimum. Had Castle Grayskull not gone forward, it likely would have stifled the waning enthusiasm for the line further.

Now that sculpting can begin, Mattel is hoping to have something preliminary to show off at NYTF in February of next year. Pre-orders have opened back up for Grayskull and will remain open until January 4, 2013 at 9AM PT. Fans can now look forward to voting in the Spring for what characters will appear on the box art, which will be done by the same artist who painted the box art on the original Castle Grayskull, Rudy Obrero.

If you have not yet pre-ordered Castle Grayskull, you can do so here.

$20 Game of the Week: Democracy 2 (PC)

This past week saw the end of one of the most brutal election seasons in recent history. Whether you voted for Barry-O or Mittens, one thing is for sure, you’ll be thankful for no more campaign ads. There are quite a few games that depict the campaign trail i(n fact, I looked at one late last year). However, how not too many games depict what happens after you step into the Oval Office, and I don’t mean city builders like Tropico and SimCity either. Rather, how many games let you control every aspect of your nation’s policies, from welfare to foreign aid? Cliff Harris/Positech Game’s Democracy 2 is one of the few games that lets players do just that.

Famicom Dojo Podcast: LucasArts and Crafts

George Lucas recently sold all of LucasFilm to Disnet for $4 billion.
Not only does that mean there will be a new Star Wars movie in 2015, but all of
LucasFilm’s ancillary businesses came with the deal: the graphic effects powerhouse
Industrial Light and Magic, used by almost every major motion picture studio for
photorealistic effects; Skywalker Sound, which does for audio was ILM does for video;
and the once-mighty Graphic Adventure game shop LucasArts.

Sean and Vinnk reminisce about their favorite LucasArts games from their childhood —
such as Loom, Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle, the Indiana Jones Graphic Adventures,
and more — trace through its more recent games to see what the studio has become,
and speculate what will become of its talented game designers once faced with Disney’s
own powerful video game publisher, Disney Interactive.

Maximum Letdown: Contra – Legacy of War (PS1, Sega Saturn)

Contra – Legacy of War represents one of the franchise’s lowest points. As the sequel to the Genesis classic Contra – Hard Corps, Legacy of War should have used the Playstation’s processing power to bring the franchise to the next generation with full force. Instead, it became one of the bastard step children of one of Konami’s most beloved franchises, right along side the Nintendo 64 Castlevania titles.

Powetcast 143: That Old Pair Of Jeans

Zac, Adam, Zero, and Genius roundtable old cartoon intros, the Halo 4 web series, and probably talk too long about Super Cosby 64.

Join the discussion! Leave a comment about what you think of cartoon intros and the lackluster toons that followed them. You don’t even have to listen to the podcast. Just say something!
