$20 Game of the Week: Plague Inc (iOS, Android)

plagueinc

I know how the world is going to end, and it ain’t pretty. It starts with one small bug known as…Hope. And not the Barack Obama kind either. You see, some unlucky schmuck in Indonesia gets infected by it after eating some bad cattle. Other than some mild insomnia and some nausea, the guy doesn’t think much of it. However, the virus is able to spread via insects and tainted livestock, and other people in his village catch it. Of course some tourists from Britain come over, and after mingling with a few ‘working girls’, they inadvertently take the bug with them back to the United Kingdom. Before the summer, the bug has evolved quite a bit, as now that nausea turns to vomiting, those coughs turn to pneumonia, and anemia begins to develop within the blood streams of those effected. This gains the attention of the international community, but the virus continues to develop new strains, making it harder and harder for scientists to keep up with it. Making matters worse, now Hope is being spread through air and water. As infections start showing up in first world countries like the U.S and Japan, it gets increasingly harder to keep a lid on the virus, as even our antibiotics are no longer enough to fight it. Affected citizens degenerate into outright insanity as whole governments are being shutdown to deal with the threat. By the end of the following year, there is no place on Earth that hasn’t been affected by Hope. The lucky ones are already dead. The ones left become living corpses as their bodies slowly degrade. Advanced dysentery shuts down their digestive systems as their stomach immediately reject any thing they try to eat. Humanity is left to die a slow, agonizing death within 2 years after the first infection.

That nightmarish scenario isn’t real thankfully. However, if it happens in Ndemic Creations/Miniclip’s Plague Inc, then you will have won the game. That’s right, your goal is to develop and evolve a super virus so that it will kill off all of humanity.

New DC Animated feature trailer: Superman Unbound

The newest animated feature coming from DC Entertainment is Superman Unbound. We see Superman and Supergirl taking on Brainiac with lots of backstory concerning Brainiac’s attack on Krypton and the disappearance of its capital city, Kandor. The story is loosely based on the 2008 Action Comics plotline written by Geoff Johns.

The movie is due out later this year and will feature Matt Bomer as Superman, Molly Quinn as Supergirl, John Noble as Braniac and Stana Katic as Lois Lane.

Looks pretty interesting to me. I am happy to see the clear reference to Independence Day in the trailer.

Famicom Dojo Podcast: Destructoid Stole My Beer

Famicom Dojo Podcast 68: Destructoid Stole My Beer

Be careful about bringing your beer to a Destructoid room party! They might claim they don’t know you, and then keep your beer! Sean tells Vinnk about his time at MAGFest, the fun panels he attended, the cool people he met (and re-met), the awesome videos he watched — like JewWario’s trailer for his new FamiKamen Rider series, and how Sean would go to a Destructoid room party again (even if he has to bring more beer to get in). Discussion about the MSX also re-ignites the debate of what can or can’t be considered a game console.

New INJUSTICE: Gods Among Us trailer – The Line

A new trailer has surfaced for DC Entertainment’s new game INJUSTICE: Gods Among Us. This game is being done by Netherrealm, the same studio behind Mortal Kombat. This fighter features some of DC’s most well known characters including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Lex Luthor and many many more. This trailer gives us a little more insight into the story of the game. It has a very Crime Syndicate feel to it where all the heroes are more or less villains. The game will be coming out on April, 16th 2013.

I am definitely looking forward to it.

Botcon 2013 Exclusive Hoist revealed

Hoist_robot_mag_cover

It’s that time of year again where we patiently wait for the unveiling of each of the Botcon box set exclusives to be revealed until registration goes on sale before we see all of them and quickly sells out. The theme this year for the box set is Machine Wars. This was a very short lived line from 1997 that was really only available at Kay-Bee Toys stores.

Today we get a look at Hoist. Hoist was a basic figure in the line. He was a tow truck that looked a little more like a dump track with a hook on the back of it. Fun Publications has chosen to use the Generations Kup mold with a retooled head for this figure. The image seen is just a mock-up and not the actual figure, so our mileage is likely to vary, but as far as robot mode goes, it looks pretty good. The head is pretty spot on and I’m pleased with the translation from the original figure. The color scheme is very basic, so it matches pretty well. I imagine they saved some money on paint apps for this figure so they can lavish some other figure in the line. I don’t think the vehicle mode is a good match. Kup is a pickup, whereas Hoist is supposed to be a tow truck. He’s not really hoisting anything, though. He’s more hauling than anything else.

What do you think of Hoist? Tell us in the comments and help us speculate what other figures could be coming in this set!

TMNT Classics Bebop and Rocksteady revealed

Classics_Rocksteady_Bebop

MTVGeek tweeted a picture of the forthcoming second wave of the TMNT Classics line consisting of Bebop and Rocksteady. While, we’ve known for about a week that Wave 2 would consist of this pair, we have not previously seen any images of them.

I was uneasy that the figures would be based more heavily on the original action figures than their portrayals in the cartoon. Thankfully, that is definitely not the case. Rocksteady even comes with the army helmet that we really only see for the first few episodes of the series. I was lukewarm on the first wave’s turtles, but these two have me sold pretty solidly. I do hope that we see a trash can lid shield like the one packaged originally for Bebop.

Let us know in the comments what you think!

MAGFest 2013: Famicom Data Recorder Preview

Sean shares a couple of items from his MAGFest haul! This year he procured a Family Keyboard and Famicom Data Recorder from Mad-Gear. It’s a pretty cool, really strange peripheral that saved game data for a very small number of games before the Famicom Disk System came along and stole its thunder.

This will definitely be covered in a future episode of Famicom Dojo, but until then enjoy this quick hardware preview, and imagine the gaming possibilities with sequential magnetic tape!
