$20 game of the week: Killer 7 (Gamecube, Ps2)

killer7.JPGYeah, I know I’m late, but I’m dealing with a crippling bout of Pharynghitis, (in other words, I’m under the weather) so don’t sue me. Anyway, Gamecube owners craving some serious M-rated action have very few venues to turn to, (including rare’s Eternal Darkness and Midway’s Mortal Kombat Deception) and even fewer that are exclusive to the system. THis is also on PS2, but it once began life as a member of the ‘Capcom 5’, 5 gamecube games from Capcom that would hopefully breathe life into the system. SInce the announcement, the first game flopped miserably, the second did quite well, even spawning a sequel and a few spinoffs…also ported to PS2, the third was cancelled altogether, and the fourth was one of 2005’s top games, if not the top game of 2005 (and was also ported to PS2). This is the fifth, and not only does it succeed at being one of the more grown up games available for the system, it’s also one of the most outright weirdest games available, from it’s unconventional control scheme, to it’s oddball plot, involving a man with an afro, an elementary school, a child organ harvester, a power rangers-esqe superhero team, and crazy, even if somewhat predictable plot twist. Although there is little replay value, the zany plot alone makes it’s worth the $20 dollars. For kicks, there is an excellent plot analysis available on gamefaqs.com.

Futurama does not Return?

FuturamaIts seems Billy West, the voice of Fry, has posted again on his message board to retract his statement about 26 new episodes of Futurama. It does appear that there will be some sort of Futurama project coming out in the future but a new season is not currently on the agenda, sadly.

From the post:

Guys,
I’m sorry I gave inaccurate info on the cartoon.I was told on one end that the
TV show was a go but DXC enlightened me (with a hammer) that this was
not the case.I think there is a Futurama project as in DVD’s but I appearently
had bad info. But I do live to give good Futurama news to people. So I must’ve
died or something.

All eyes on the skies,

Billy

Thanks to Sam for the heads up.

MOTU Exclusive Sorceress Mini-Statue from AFX.com

Exclusive Sorceress Mini-StatueAction Figure Express has an exclusive version of the Masters of the Universe Sorceress mini-statue coming up from the Four Horsemen. The colors of the regular statue reflect those shown in the animated series from 2004. The exclusive statue uses the color scheme the Four Horsemen originally proposed to Mattel for the show. The colors are very similar to the original scheme from the character in the 80’s version of the animated series.

You can order this statue here. I have a feeling I’ll be ordering one.

Transformers BW Neo Unicron Prototype gallery

BW Neo Unicron PrototypeTFormers.com has posted a gallery of images depicting the now infamous BW Neo Unicron mold that took the fandom by storm, but never surfaced for more than a blurry image from a test shot.

Looking at this gallery now, I would have to say I’m glad this mold was shelved and we got what became Armada Unicron.

Futurama returns!

FuturamaThe voice of Fry from Futurama, Billy West, has made a post to his message board making a brief disclaimer to a new poster and then continuing on to say that he is in negotiations to do 26 new episodes of Futurama that will most likely air on television before a dvd release.

From the post:

I’m thisclose to selling my show–”Billy Bastard–Amateur Human Being,”
And the other good news is that they’re doing 26 new episodes of
”Futurama” for TV and we’re hammering out the deal now.The original
plan was to have the DVD’s first but that’s no longer the case.I’m totaly
jammed dude.

Greetings from the year 3000! It still sucks!

Billy

Big Band Mario and Zelda

m&zbbl.jpgIf you got 2 hours to kill, why not watch a video from The “Mario & Zelda Big Band Live” concert, from September 14th, 2003, at the Nihon Seinenkan Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Koji Kondo and Shigeru Miyamoto make appearances, and theres a bit of (Japanese) talking between the songs.

thanks 4cr!

Halo Graphic Novel

halocomic.jpgBungie carefully sidestepped any game rumors in the weekly update by unleashing the news of a big Halo Graphic Novel from Marvel. In typical fashion, Bungie has all the creative control over the book, Marvel is just ditributing it. They signed on some big names from the world of comic to illustrate and write the stories within, as well as showcasing original art from Bungie’s own art team.
I’ve stayed away from the Halo novels thus far (I read FX Nine’s infamous “Ninja Gaiden” novel when I was 10 and its kept me off gamebooks for life), but I can’t not get excited about a comic exploring one of my favorites. Its due out in July, and by then we should have real Halo 3 or Halo movie news. Or at least I hope. God, I hope.
