Aaron Eckhart “To Face” Off Against Dark Knight

Aaron EckhartAaron Eckhart is either confirmed as – or in negotiations to play – Harvey Dent, better known as Two-Face, depending on your sources. All in all, it sounds like it’s pretty much a done deal.

I remember the first time I really recognized who Eckhart was – I was watching The Core, and I thought, hey, it’s that guy! Thank God that’s not the high point of his movie career. Thank You For Smoking was of course his most notable recent role, and I’m personally hoping that we get to see much more subtlety and depth to Harvey Dent than what we had to see in Batman Forever. Of course, in Tommy Lee Jones’s defense, I’m pretty sure the crappiness of that movie had nothing to do with him.

Tekken 6 Coming to Arcades

tk6_aou_08.jpgYou knew it was coming. Two new characters, Leo and Zafina are unveiled.

Namco proudly displayed the game for the first time at Japan’s AOU 2007 coin-op exhibition. Tekken Official has been updated with several screen shots and a short trailer.

Tekken 6 will undoubtedly land on the PS3 sometime after its arcade run, but with Virtua Fighter 5 jumping ship to Xbox 360, is is possible Namco will finally go multiplatform?

I’m Power Girl, Dammit

Power Girl and Oracle try to have a conversation, but Bizarro keeps interrupting.

Fan Film director Chris Notarile has created a pretty wide variety of DC comics inspired shorts, featuring some of the best and brightest from the good ol’ days of Justice League International. After the jump see Blue Beetle and Booster Gold deliver a public service announcement, Flash gets a speeding ticket, and Maxwell Lord endorses Advil. [Read the rest of this entry…]

Crackdown Demo impressions

This enterprising youtuber pretty much sums up whats most fun about Crackdown. The sandbox genre needed some new blood, and the next gen horsepower combined with your abilities to lift and detonate anything in the gameworld are just what the doctor ordered.

You start out in a boring room, where you can grab one of four vehicles provided by your supercop garage. After a senselessly long drive in a tunnel, you land on a street corner in the middle of a firefight between gang members and police. I took this first oppurtunity to kill everything that moved, and it was much more satisfying than in GTA because the aiming system actually kinda works. It’s not great, but I’ll get back to that. Getting back in my car, I drove up the road and find that pretty much everywhere I go there’s gangs, so there’s lots of enemies to kill. I wasted no time finding alternate ways of dealing with this problem by running gangs over, tossing random items at them, using explosives. The visuals are much better than screen shots and even videos give them credit for. It’s a very vibrant world and the hint of cartoonyness keeps me from getting too serious and screwing around. I’m sure theres a target I had to kill here, but I spent all my time driving around, trying to scale buildings, and using whatever I had laying around to maul criminals and civilians.

I was never a fan of GTA. I didn’t think it played well, didn’t think it looked good, and the sandbox options were pretty much limited to driving and murder. Crackdown offers exploration and explosives, which are much more my bag.

The demo is currently on Xbox Live Marketplace, and according to Major Nelson, its already more popular than most full Xbox 360 games.

Cream of the Comics – 2/14/2007

GØDLAND #16GØDLAND #16
written by Joe Casey, art by Tom Scioli

Well, I definitely tried to pimp this book out before, but I don’t think anyone took any interest, as I also definitely screwed up the image-linking in that post, but no one minded.

BUT!

Tomorrow, to celebrate Valentine’s Day I presume, issue #16 is ONLY SIXTY CENTS!

And, considering the book is at Image rather than Marvel or DC, the creators have to give up more than just the bulk of their paycheck to put a book like that out. Think about what a labor of love and effort Casey and Scioli went through in making this so affordable. And if your local retailer doesn’t have one, just back-order it; it’ll still be the same price!

So seriously, take one for the team and cough up sixty cents already you damn cheapskate!

Head Exec at Cartoon Network resigns

Cartoon Network LogoNewsarama has a note up saying that Jim Samples, the head executive officer at Cartoon Network resigned on Friday due to fall out from the guerilla marketing campaign gone wrong in Boston for the upcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. In an internal memo to the company, Samples stated that he hoped his resignation would allow this event to be put in the past and allow the company to move forward. The article goes on to say that he had been with the company for 13 years.

You can read the rest of the internal memo in the article here.

Speaking as a Bostonian, this is another footnote in an embarassing chapter of history for the city of Boston.

Toy Fair 2007 Pre-Game

Its about that time of the year again.

All the toy companies gather in New York to unveil their plans for the coming year. The event doesn’t actually start until tomorrow, but information and pictures are already making their way to our little set of tubes on Inter-net. We’ll try and do one Toy Fair post a day and maybe one wrap up post for the event so as not to clutter the news page.

Read on for info on GI Joe, Transformers, Marvel Legends, and more!
