Famicom Dojo Podcast: Video Game Movies

Can a movie based on a video game ever be any good? If their Rotten Tomatoes scores are to be believed, these films are never critical darlings. Some find fans in niche places, but many are just… you know… BAD. Vinnk and SeanOrange plumb their memories of video game movies to find out if either of them belong to the “so-SO-bad-but-I-still-love-it-even-though-geez-it-sucks” club!

Lost Classics: Yie Ar Kung-Fu (Arcade, MSX, NES, Xbox 360 Game Room, Xbox Live Arcade, Game Boy Advance)

It’s incredibly primitive by today’s standards, but Yie Ar Kung Fu is the grandfather of the whole fighting game genre. Taking control of Oolong, a generic Chinese fighter, you take on 11 different opponents, each with thier own abilities. Although you can’t play as the other fighters, the matches have a lot of strategy and variety. With Oolong being able to perform 16 different attacks, the game was surprisingly deep given it’s age, It was ported to several older systems, and updated on various gaming download services. The Xbox Live arcade port has remixed graphics. The Game Boy Advance version, included as part of Konami’s Arcade Advanced complication, has 2 secret opponents which can be unlocked via (what else?) the Konami code. It also has a two player mode in which players can play as any of the game’s fighters. If you like fighting games, you’ll definitely want to check out this Lost Classic.

Powetcast: Drunk And On Fire

This is the worst episode we’ve ever done. Have a listen! Seriously, my audio is way lower than the rest of the guys, I don’t know what happened. Usually I swallow the microphone. Whoops!

The rest of the guys are aDam, Captain Genius, and our new challenger Ernie.

Botcon 2011: Crazy’s BotCon Haul Part 6 – Junkion Blacksmith Headmasters

There was a table in the Botcon dealer room, to which, I kept going back. They had very reasonable prices on domestic hasbro releases and some third party items that were not outrageous. One of the third party items I kept eyeing were a couple recently released headmaster figures in the likeness of Soundwave and Optimus Prime. Not only did these figures become heads for headmaster-compatible figures, but they also had an alternate mode.

Robot mode. Alternate Mode. Headmaster Mode. But wait, there is more! These figures come with a small plate that allows one to form the head of the other figure’s robot mode. Its a pretty crazy and neat concept, but does it work well?
