After The Cape #1
written by Howard Wong, art by Marco Rudy
Hero By Night #1
written and drawn by D.J. Coffman
This week, two books caught my eye, and both of them are new. Just looking at the covers, you can already see that there are some stark contrasts between the two in art style, but if you take a look at the concepts, you can see that both use the ever-awesome superhero genre as a springboard. Keep reading after the jump for why you should buy them, and for preview pages of both to back my story up!

Superman Returns, love it or leave it, did make a pretty big splash and made more than enough money for a sequel. Many were already pencilling in “Man Of Steel” for 2009. Now, Moviehole.net reports now that this movie may be scrapped to put Brandon Routh in the Justice League.
Lending some credence to this rumor is the fact that director Bryan Singer is moving forward with a World War II Era thriller with “Usual Suspects” writing Chris Macquarrie, which will film this fall, pushing any start date for Superman well into 2008.
Variety forced a comment out of Warners today, but it wasn’t much except that Singer is still attached to direct and they’ll do it after his other movie.
I’m of two minds of this. Firstly, I don’t know if its such a good idea to jumpstar the JLA movie by sacrificing a Superman sequel… but on the other hand, Returns didn’t do that good and who’s to say theres even money on the table for another movie? Superman getting the League started could do great, especially if they league consists of heroes that don’t have their own movie deals (I doubt Christopher Nolan’s Batman would work in a JLA movie).

Nope, not Marvel’s Captain Marvel. They haven’t even figured out when his book’s going to come out. Instead, we’re talking DC’s Captain Marvel, whose mini-series from Jeff Smith is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the new push for the character. With the script underway for the movie (which has not cast Jake Gyllenhaal in the role, despite what rumors may be telling you), it looks like they’ve got big plan for the character… In fact, a movie pretty much is the big plan for the character.
The upcoming SHAZAM! animated series is all part of the push, according to the latest Lying In The Gutters, and they’ve got the promo image to prove it (image mirrored on the left). Looks like the new standard animation style from The Batman and Legion of Super-Heroes holds through for Billy Batson too. Those shoulders look lumpy.
Update- Look like this is a fake, as Micheal G in our comments section pointed out: Its a an orginal work, and some fankid photoshopped out Jim Zubkavich’s signature. LITG has corrected their article.

It’s the third and final day of Wizard World LA, and… well, not much to talk about.

DC and Marvel scrimped on the news today (what, tired of talking World War Hulk, Amazons Attack, and World War III already?), but some interesting news did surface about IDW’s Scarface prequel, Gene Simmons diving into the comic scene, and some great Heroes DVD (and HD-DVD) news. Read on!

Yes, I realize we JUST had two separate conventions. Clearly, this is nowhere near enough of them. Clearly.
Continue on to read about Avengers Classic, Booster Gold & Infinity, Inc., and 9 new Marvel busts from Bowen Designs. All that, and the rest of the Day 1 roundup after the jump

In the realm of webcomics there is no bigger name than Penny Arcade. So when they announced they were making a game, we cheered at seeing our favorite game critics become game characters… and then of course, feared that the game would be the type they’d normally criticize.
From this short preview, theres very little actual gameplay, but it looks promising. It appears to take place outside of the normal “Tycho & Gabe” world in one of their stranger made up worlds. Oh and theres the Fruit Fucker.
Something that is for sure is the game is being simultaneously released to Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. So anyone who can read the Penny Arcade comic can play the game! It’ll be episodic, but hopefully not episodic like S.I.N., which was cancelled after one installment or Half Life, which has its second release now over a year late.
Get all 59 seconds of the preview in quicktime, wmv. or HD. Oh and of course, if you didn’t know already you can read Penny Arcade the comic strip 3 times a week here.
