Wizard World: Los Angeles
Yes, I realize we JUST had two separate conventions. Clearly, this is nowhere near enough of them. Clearly.

Continue on to read about Avengers Classic, Booster Gold & Infinity, Inc., and 9 new Marvel busts from Bowen Designs. All that, and the rest of the Day 1 roundup after the jump

Marvel:

    Avengers Classic3

  • The big news of the day for Marvel was the new Avengers Classic series. Like the defunct X-Men Classics series, the book will reprint older stories, starting with issue 1, and it will also feature a back-up story set in the same time period. For people that already have the Masterworks reprints, you should know these are being recolored to match the originals, and also that the back-up stories are all new. Bang-up team of Dwayne McDuffie and Michael Avon Oeming are on for the first 6 issues of backups, and issue 1 also features a bonus backup drawn by Kevin Maguire (of Formerly Known As and I Can’t Believe It’s Not the Justice League fame) and written by Stan Lee.
  • There will be a Spider-Man/Red Sonja crossover with Dynamite comics, the most obvious team-up ever. Their enemies? Eddie Brock as Venom, and Kulan Gath as Kulan Gath. Michael Avon Oeming will be the writer.
  • Eddie Brock is also supposed to be in Sensational Spider-Man #38, but they didn’t say for sure whether he’d be Venom or not.
  • You might not have heard, but they have a little something called World War Hulk coming out this summer. The prologue will feature some writing from Peter David, which really makes me want to buy it.

DC:

  • There will be two new series (on top of the thirty thousand already mentioned) spinning out of 52: Booster Gold (written by Geoff Johns & Jeff Katz, art by Booster’s creator Dan Jurgens) and Infinity, Inc. (written by Peter Milligan, art by Max Fiumara). Infinity, Inc. will be led by John Henry Irons.
  • Ed Benes will stay on JLA past Meltzer’s 12 issue run
  • 52 will start coming out in trades in May, in four separate books, $19.99 each.
  • WWIII will explain why Supergirl is hanging out with the Legion of Super-Heroes, in case anyone was still wondering.
  • Speaking of which, Mark Waid and Barry Kitson’s last issues on LSH will be #30.

Top Cow:

Madam Mirage

  • Paul Dini will be working on a new series titled Madam Mirage, with art and character designs by Hunter-Killer’s Kenneth Rocafort. The book kicks off in April with a special 99 cent issue. Click on the accompanying image to see the Madam in what must be the world’s most uncomfortable pose.
  • They’re planning a crossover with Marvel called Top Cow/Marvel: Unholy Union featuring Witchblade, the Darkness, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, and … The Incredible Hulk? Of course. Bruce Banner, master of the occult. It’ll be a 40-page one-shot.
