Webcomic Interview with Awkward Zombie

Awkward Zombie
A couple of months ago, I managed to sit down and have a nice talk with the creator of The Zombie Hunters webcomic, and it went pretty well. Thusly, I’ve decided to make sort of a small series out of it. (if other webcomic artists will have as such, that is….fickle bunch)

This time around I managed to snag an interview with Katie Tiedrich, who runs “Awkward Zombie“, and get some info out of her as to the details of her comic and beyond.

Witchblade teaser poster revealed, finds clothing unnecessary

Witchblade teaser movie poster

A Witchblade movie was recently announced and we now have a teaser poster. I think it pretty much speaks for itself, but for those that want more, here is a snippet from FirstShowing.Net:

The comic followed Sara Pezzini, a NYPD detective who comes into possession of the Witchblade, a supernatural, sentient artifact with immense destructive and protective powers. The artifact is actually an ornate jewel-encrusted gauntlet that gives extraordinary powers to the wearer, a specially chosen female from each generation. We can expect that the film will follow a story based on that mythology with a central female character coming in possession of the gauntlet. IMDb lists Michael Rymer, of “Battlestar Galactica”, as the director, although his involvement is entirely unconfirmed at the moment. The film is expected to go into production this September for a 2009 release.

Lost Classics: Captain America and the Avengers (Arcade, Genesis, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, Game Gear)

avengers.JPGAt the time of its release, this Data East-developed game was second only to Konami’s X-men game in terms of multiplayer beat-em-up action, and even today it maintains its charm. Taking control of either Captain America, Iron Man, Vision, or Hawkeye, you battle your way through various supervillians in order to make it to the Red Skull’s moon base. You’ll meet Whirlwind, the Wizard, Ultron, Crossbones, and several other familiar Avengers villains. You’ll even run into Juggernaut and the Sentinels from the x-men comics. Quicksilver, Namor, the Wasp, and Wonder Man make cameo appearences. There are even some shooter segments to mix up the action. The game’s English translation took some hits (“Why should it goes well?”) when it came over here, but the game is still enjoyable, especially when you bring along friends. There is an absolute zero chance of this being re-released in any way (primarily due to the fact that Data East no longer exists and Activision holds the licensing rights to most major Marvel properties), so you’re going to have to do some searching to find the cartridge or cabinet. If you do manage to run across the game, check it out, and it will tide you over until Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 hits sometime down the road.

Free Comic Book Day 2008

Free Comic Book Day 2008

Saturday, May 3rd is here, and just like every first Saturday of May since the dawn of time, that means Free Comic Book Day is here too.

Now, I realize that to the layman this may lead you to believe that you can walk into any old comic shop, grab any old book, and walk out. Nay! This is untrue! There is a specific set of books available for this, though with some careful choosing, you can end up with some truly excellent comics. Let Powet be your guide, and keep an extra eye out for these books:

Of course if you’re a sucker for Marvel and DC, Marvel’s putting out a new X-Men book and DC’s reprinting two fantastic books of theirs – All Star Superman #1 and Tiny Titans #1. But seriously, if I don’t find a copy of Atomic Robo, my tiny little heart may start breaking.

Mortal Kombat Vs DC Is Real [Updated]

Its been years since Marvel Vs Capcom hit arcades, and its still one of the most popular fighters with both casual players and tournament pros. But Capcom doesn’t hold the Marvel license anymore so re-releases and sequels aren’t happening any time soon.
To tap into this audience, Midway is going to announce shortly what heard back in September, that Mortal Kombat is going to be taking on the DC Universe. Noob.com has been running blurry images trying to hype things up for a big reveal, but Mortal Kombat Online has spoiled the whole thing with this:

Sub-Zero vs Batman.
Since this is still not fully announced, details are scarce; but one rumor persists: No fatalities, little blood. Last week on 1up.com’s 1up Yours podcast, Shane Bettenhausen said the next MK would be rated T, and this move is consistent with that thought. We’ll keep an eye out for a full press release soon.
The official website www.worldscollide.com is up and I’ve added the trailer at the top. See also Gamespot’s interview with Ed Boon. Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe is due fall 2008.

Wildly Popular ‘Iron Man’ Trailer To Be Adapted Into Full-Length Film

DC Loses Half the Rights To Action Comics #1

Action Comics #1Everyone knows Superman was originally created by two men – Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster – whose creation first appeared in Action Comics #1. As of last week, a judge ruled that the heirs of Jerry Siegel were to receive half the copyright of that material back. What does this mean exactly? Well, if I had to distill the story down into only two wildly oversimplified bulletpoints, then know this – DC may have just lost half the profits they make (and have made since 1999) off of Superman, and they may lose the remaining half of the copyright entirely to the Shuster estate in 5 years.

Now, things aren’t really as cut and dry as that – as in any legal case, there’s a lot of room for interpretation. And expect DC/Warner to make more than a couple appeal attempts as well.

But for now…
