First Look of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern

Entertainment Weekly is running their San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) edition with a cover that reveals what Ryan Reynolds will look like when powered up as the Green Lantern. You can see that image above. We’ve known for a while now that the costume would be entirely CG, but we haven’t seen it at all until now.

Let us know what you think in the comments!

Thor, Odin and Loki photo released by Marvel

Marvel.com has posted the first still image from the upcoming Thor movie featuring Thor, Odin and Loki. We briefly saw Odin a while back in an ET spot, but this is the first clear image of he and Loki. Don’t know about anyone else, but I definitely get a Kirby vibe from Odin and Loki’s costumes. Click the image above for a slightly larger version of the photo.

The New Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield

andrew-garfield26 year old actor Andrew Garfield has been cast as the “new” “young” “teenage” Spider-Man in Sony’s next film based on the hero. Marc Webb will direct from a script by James Vanderbilt.

Who cares? I mean honestly Tobey Maguire might be pushing 40 and the last flick the old guard did wasn’t great, but theres almost nothing about a new Spider-Man that could be remotely interesting now. Chalk that up to a decade of super fatigue, from when Spider-Man stood alone as one of the best to only a number in a field of more entertaining hero films.

What say you, true believers? Does this new Spidey have a shot or is this just another white kid in tights?

Press release follows.

Marvel Announces TV Division Run By Jeph Loeb

marvel
Jeph Loeb, the comic writer responsible for successful runs on Batman, Superman, The Avengers, and other characters has been appointed the head of a new TV division of Marvel Entertainment. He’ll be in charge of seeing Marvel comics characters translated to TV in both animated and live action formats, as well as direct to DVD movies.

Loeb is no stranger to TV, having been a contributing writer to Heroes, Smallville, and Lost in recent years. He’s been under exclusive contract with Marvel since 2005.

Now lets get this out of the way: Loeb is a mixed bag. Yeah, he’s written some legit classics like The Long Halloween, but he’s also gotten some of the most vocal critical lashing I’ve ever heard on a comic writer. Still, he’s familiar with both side of this business and perhaps as a creative director and executive producer he can be more effective than he was on Heroes or The Ultimates.

What do you think? Is now the time to turn X-Men or The Punisher into a weekly live action series? I think it is!

Powet Alphabet: Y is for Y The Last Man

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

[Disclaimer – This article was written after reading the first three volumes of the series with no knowledge of what happens in the story thereafter.]

Y The Last Man is not only a concise description of the story following Yorick, the last man on Earth, but also a question. Why the last man on Earth? The stage is set in the first issue with a series of events leading up to the ‘plague’, as it is sometimes referred to in the book. Everywhere around the world at that moment in time, every male of every species on the planet died. Except, of course, for Yorick and his pet monkey, Ampersand.
