Baltimore Comic-Con: DC Nation Roundup

Baltimore Comic-ConThere’s a lot of sites out there with transcripts (or approximations thereof) of the DC Nation panel, and the vast majority of it seems to be rehashing old knowledge and witty banter.  That said, there were at least a couple nuggets of knowledge worth gnawing on:

  • New (?) Terra shows up in Supergirl #12 (issue to be drawn by Amanda Conner), and this will be the Terra on the Titans East team coming up in Teen Titans, which will be led by Deathstroke.
  • A Terra miniseries is still coming, but after that Supergirl appearance
  • Cassandra Cain (the recent Batgirl) will also be on Teen Titans East
  • A General Zod more like the one from Superman II will be showing up somewhere, sometime
  • Brave & The Bold will be a team-up book, with issue #1 starring Batman & Green Lantern, #2 with Supergirl, Green Lantern, Batman, & Blue Beetle, #3 will have all of them, plus a backup with Lobo & Adam Strange
  • All 3 heroes in space in 52 will not be returning… so based on the previous bit, it seems that Adam Strange will probably still (unsurprisingly) remain in space
  • The upcoming 5 issue extension of Manhunter will lead into an upcoming Wonder Woman story
  • Diana Prince will show up in 52, somewhere, sometime
  • Ambush Bug will be in issue #24 of 52, as will Checkmate, Suicide Squad, and Martian Manhunter
  • There will be a Nightwing annual in early ’07
  • Is Roy Harper becoming the Red Arrow, a la Kingdom Come?  “Not really.”
  • Seven Soldiers will be coming out next month, they tell us yet again
  • Meltzer is writing 14 issues of JLA total, including issue #0
  • Despite the fact that we’re getting an All-Star Batgirl, and despite the fact that there’s nowhere to get Barry Allen stories, there are no plans for an All-Star Flash book

FANtastic Exclusive 2007 under way

Four HorsemenNot wasting anytime, The Four Horsemen have put up the first poll for their FANtastic Exclusive 2007 voting. The FANtastic Exclusive is a chance to put the fans in the driver’s seat of picking what Four Horsemen line their next series of figures should come from, in addition to picking the character designs, weapons, packaging and more.

You may recall last year’s end result, Xetheus, the Minotaur and the later added exclusive Troop Builder figures.

4HM_FantasticExclusive_RoyalGuard_MinotaurAlso announced from the Four Horsemen is the addition of a seventh minotaur figure, the Mynothecean Royal Guardsman. He will be available for pre-order at the Four Horsemen’s online store, StoreHorsemen starting Saturday September 9th. Thats today for those not paying attention. Supplies will be extremely limited as the figure will only be made in a quantity of 250 and not all of those will be released for pre-order.

Transformers News Recap – 2006.09.06

Transformers-Official-Image.jpgThere was a lot of Transformers news in the past few days that we passed over, so I wanted to do a quick round up of some of the things we missed in case you missed it too.

tf-dvd-cover-large2.jpgFirst off, the lenticular cover art was revealed for the 20th Anniversary release of The Transformers: The Movie. That can be seen here. Its a large animated gif, so it may take a minute to load. Magnus seems to have gotten the shaft on this one.

The Hartmans’ shared some images of a ‘few’ items they will be bringing with them to Botcon to be sold. The Hartmans’ have what is generally believed to be the most complete collection of Transformers and have stated that it will be on sale at Botcon. The images can be seen here on the 2005 boards. The wall of American carded figures alone leaves me speechless.

Registration letters and events schedules should be arriving in the mail for those who have pre-registered for Botcon.

Transformers Classics Magnus vs SkywarpAn image of an upcoming 2-pack in the Classics line surfaced. It features a repaint of Prime as Ultra Magnus and Starscream as Skywarp. The package indicates it will be a Target Exclusive.

Toronto’s Comic Book Expo – Friday & Saturday

Toronto Comic Book ExpoToronto’s Comic Book Expo started on Friday and runs through today, but already there’s been a decent amount of news handed out. Of course the biggest news, hands down, is the story of the new Alpha Flight book, to be titled Omega Flight.

Omega FlightNewsarama posted the image on the right of the new team. Who are they? Here we go, from left to right – Talisman (daughter of original Alpha Flight’s Shaman), one of the Spider-Women (based on story appearances in Ms. Marvel, it may be Julia Carpenter, but based on physical appearances, it looks more like Mattie Franklin), Guardian (long time Alpha Flighter), USAgent (Captain America is confirmed as not being on the team), and Beta Ray Bill (unless Thor’s been taking some Mutant Growth Hormone).

The book is to be written by Michael Avon Oeming, and drawn by Scott Kolins. Read a full interview of the two creators on Silver Bullet Comics.

And a brief rundown of the other news that’s been delivered –

  • Geoff Johns will be writing an All-Star Batgirl book with JG Jones on art. Because, apparently, Batman’s female knockoff is DC’s next biggest star after the big 3.
  • Dan Slott “will be doing something other than She-Hulk next year”. I think they meant ‘in addition to’, and not ‘other than’. Otherwise that breaks my big giant heart.
  • Geoff Johns (again?) is writing Action Comics issues with Richard Donner (original Superman movie director). They’ve completed two issues, and their fourth issue will be done in 3-D. Does that mean it’ll come with the glasses? Who knows.
  • Despite the fact that he wasn’t in the earlier image, The Sentry is reported to be a member of The Mighty Avengers.

That’s the high points, but if you want more of the little details, you can read the main articles from Newsarama here & here, and the one at Comics Continuum here.

Halo 3 / Transformers

Sorry to interrupt the actual news reporting and editorials we usually do around here, but I clipped together this charming little video, and the least you can do is watch it.

Audio is provided by the Halo 3 trailer, and video is entirely footage from Transformers: The Movie. Since it feels like I can’t go a day without doing stories about Halo or Transformers, its only fair I end up putting both tags on the same story at least once.

Civil War and JLA Delayed

civilwar.jpgFirst the bad news…

By way of Joe, we find out Civil War #4 and #5 have been delayed over a month from their original ship date. As if that wasn’t bad enough, all the tie-in books like Fantastic 4, Frontline, Punisher, and Spider-Man have been delayed too. Newsarama has the full run down.

I don’t think it would be unfair to be upset with Marvel for not only the delay but the last minute notification. I mean a lot of fans aren’t going to find out this has slipped until they walk into the shop tomorrow and find their pull box bare. Given the magnitude of the slip and the number of titles involved, I’d say Marvel knew this was going to happen and didn’t want to tell us. For shame.

JLA.jpgOn a comparitivly optimistic note, the revamp Justice Leage of America #1 has only been delayed until next week, August 23rd.

Writer/Mastermind Brad Meltzer has posted on his blog. That DC informed him of the slip but didn’t provide an explaination. Eager to not disappoint, Meltzer informs fans “One more week. They promised. If not, we revolt and I send out the scans online.”

JLA readers do get a bonus, the first chapter from Meltzer’s new novel “The Book of Fate

Additional Botcon Exclusive images posted

Botcon.com has posted additional images of the box set of exclusive figures. The future Axalon crew is featured in a group show and as they appear in the foam packaging they will come in. You can see both of these images below.

As a member of the Transformers Collectors Club, I would just like to add my disappointment that I was once again not informed of an update to this site via the club email and instead had to find out by looking at another news site. What exactly am I paying for if not to be informed? Other than the toy, of course.
