Square-Enix and Marvel Team Up for The Avengers Project.

Yesterday, both Square-Enix and Marvel Entertainment hinted that they would both have big announcements to make. Many people wondered that since both announcements were happening on the same day and at the same time, they would be related to each other, like say, Marvel Characters appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3. Well, this morning the two companies did have an announcement. While it was not quite The Avengers teaming up with Sora (although we probably shouldn’t rule that out), what we do have is just as awesome. Marvel is teaming up with Square-Enix and Developers Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) and Eidos Montreal (Deux Ex) for The Avengers Project, a series of games which will supposedly introduce a new Marvel Universe in gaming. Obviously little has been revealed about the first game and its gameplay, and it will be a while before we learn any more, as according to Square, we’ll hear more details in 2018.

Looks like Marvel really is getting serious about its console gaming presence again, and a colloboration with Square-Enix has the potential to be huge. While the long wait is a drag, we’ll have Telltale’s Guardians of teh Galaxy Game, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, and Insomniac’s PS4 Spider-man title (assume it comes out this year) to tide us over until then.

Star Wars Episode VIII Title Revealed

As you can see, the subtitle of episode 8 is “The Last Jedi”. Of course it doesn’t tell us much more about the film. This isn’t the first time a Star Wars property has used the name “The last Jedi”. A 1981 issue of Marvel’s Star Wars comic used the title for a standalone story written by Mike Barr and Walt Simonson. A 2013 novel written by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff told the story of a Jedi being pursued by Vader who is carrying out Order 66. Also a 2014 fan film makes use of the title. Episode 8 is due later this year on December 15.

$20 Game of the Week Double Shot: Shaolin vs Wu-Tang & Kings of Kung Fu (PC)

I’m sure many of us remember those Saturday Afternoon Kung-fu flicks. It’s difficult to look at films like Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon, Dance of the Drunk Mantis, and Five FIngers of Death and not see the inspiration for modern day fighters such as Tekken and Mortal Kombat. Hell, look at Fei Long and all the other Bruce Lee look-alikes you see in various fighters. Kings of Kung Fu and Shaolin vs Wu-Tang is a pair of fighters from jae Lee productions that pay tribute to these old movies. For a pair of independently developed fighting games, these aren’t half bad.

New Injustice 2 Trailer

Injustice 2 is hitting stores May 16 of this year. Today Injustice released a trailer going into more depth about the games story. The game takes place after the events of the first with the heroes divided between two factions: those who want to repair the damage caused by Superman’s rule and those who want to see him back in power. According to the newest trailer, it looks as if forces from outer space will involve themselves as well. We already know Super-girl and Red Lantern Atrocitous will be joining the cast, but this trailer also reveals that Braniac is going to be involved in the game’s events too. $20 Game of the Week: Ridiculous Fishing (iOS, Android)

Ridiculous_Fishing_cropped_logoVlambeer’s (Super Crate Box, Luftrausers) 2013 mobile fishing game, which is an enhanced version of the company’s flash browser game Radical Fishing, is perhaps more famous for the developer’s battle with the developer of a cloned game. To make a long story short, shortly after beginning work on a mobile version, developer Gamenauts released Ninja Fishing, an game that had a similar style of play. The game became an instant success, and this discouraged the developers to a point where they temporarily scrapped the project. However, after winning awards for their game Super Crate Box, the team decided to scrap everything and rebuild Ridiculous Fishing. Thankfully the game was a success, and is one of the best games available on mobile platforms.

Double Dragon 4 Coming to PS4 and Windows 10 In January 2017!

Double Dragon used to be one of gaming’s biggest franchises during the Nintendo era. It spawned a movie, comic book, an action figure line, and animated series. However, since its heyday, it’s been outsourced to different companies for re-releases and remakes. A few years ago we got the all new game Double Dragon Neon from Majesco/Wayforward which was fairly well received. However, Arc Systems Works (Blazblue, Guilty Gear) now holds the rights to the franchise, and next month they’re releasing Double Dragon 4 for PS4 and Windows 10. This game’s direction looks like it’s inspired by the NES games rather than the arcade originals, as the sprites and backgrounds will have an 8-bit look, similar to Mega Man 9 and 10. The game will feature single player and co-op modes as well as Japanese text. Old school fans are gonna wanna check this out when it hits on January 30.
