Variety is reporting that Russell Crowe has been cast as Superman’s father Jor-El in the upcomming Superman reboot, Man of Steel.

There are currently no details on how large a roll Jor-El plays in the new movie, which starts production next month.

Less than two weeks ago DC Comics announced they would be relaunching their entire line of comics, and that in September they would release 52 #1 comics. Over the past two weeks DC has slowly been announcing the series and creative teams behind all the new #1 issues. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Fox has hired Fringe writer and producer Brad Caleb Kane to write the script for a Daredevil reboot. Kane has been hired to adapt Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s “Born Again” story from Miller’s run on Daredevil. The attention for this reboot likely comes from the success of Fox’s relaunch of the X-Men movie fanchise with X-Men: First Class.

David Slade will be directing the new Daredevil movie, with Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark producing it. According to THR one of the reasons Kane got the job writing the movie is because he is a huge Daredevil fan and has passion for the project.

Yesterday DC Comics announced that this September they will be relaunching all their super hero comics and renumbering them starting with #1 issues. In an interview with USA Today they revealed that there will be a total of 51 first issues released in a five week period.

The details aren’t fully revealed at this point, but this relaunch appears to be a reboot of the entire DC universe and will have new costumes and stories that will be more accessible to new fans.

The relaunch will start on August 31st, and DC will be release just two books that day: The final Flashpoint issue and the first issue of a new Justice League series by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee.

Another huge part of this announcement is that all of these 51 new series will be available digitally on the same day they are released in print, which makes them the first of any major comic pulbisher to do so.

Yesterday Warner Bros. announced that The Dark Knight Rises had started filming, as well as launching the film’s official website. Along with this launch includes a social campaign that revealed the first photo of Tom Hardy as Bane.

At launch the official website was just a black image with some odd chanting playing. A deditcated fan looked at the visual spectrum of the chanting and noticed it contained a twitter hashtag of #thefirerises. As fans tweeted using that hashtag, on the official site an image started to be filled in using the twitter icon of people using the hashtag. The image is still being filled in, but /Film has posted the details of this social campaign and the high res photo of the finished picture.

Tomorrow, May 7, 2011, is the annual Free Comic Book Day (FCBD). For those of you not familiar with Free Comic Book Day, on the first Saturday in May comic shops give out free comic book produced just for FCBD by the publishers. Just how many free comics you can get depends on your local shop, so be sure to ask.
