Transformers 2007: First Clip

Josh Duhamel, who plays Captain Lennox in Transformers was on Ellen yesterday. And since all actors bring clips of their movies, here is 45 seconds of Transformers. The clip is mostly unremarkable, and the last few seconds clearly jump WAY ahead so its not a full scene, but you do see a little bit of whats happening in Qatar.

LOST: Major Announcement coming May 15

desandhugo.jpg
In just 10 days, ABC and the producers of LOST will announce their intentions for the continuation of the show.

A while back we mentioned the LOST series finale already being planned, and that plan has been finalized. Kristen from E! Online (a reliable source for LOST spoilers) says that it could be only 2 more years of the show. This is a great direction to go in because loose threads can be planned out to be tied up now and any new plot elements will have definite resolutions. Thats important for a show with such strict rules on continuity, dense backstories and time lines, and large cast.

However, we may have to wait a while for new episodes after this season has run. ABC is considering a non-stop season much like FOX does with 24. New episodes would air from January to May in 2008. The silver lining is LOST is likely to regain its earlier time slot, shifting back to 9, possibly even 8 PM EST.

This is of course all operating under the assumption that Locke doesn’t blow everyone up on accident or on purpose.

HD-DVD’s Key Hacked, Runs Wild

digghddvd.jpgIn a bold display that proves you can’t control information, social news network Digg.com has been over run with the code to decrypt HD-DVD, the high definition video format.

The code went up on digg mere hours ago, and the site was served a cease & desist order. Digg CEO Jay Adelson let it be known Digg would comply with the order to avoid the lawsuit. This level of censorship of course drove the millions of nerds who basically run Digg without much actual control or supervision all day completely crazy and the code began appearing in virtually every story submitted and gained millions of hits. In case you didn’t know, on Digg, users submit links which are then approved by other users when they “digg” them. A few hours ago, over 50,000 digs had been counted toward various HD DVD code submissions.

Now Digg Founder Kevin Rose has bowed to his users. Digg will go down fighting.

Gutsy move, sure, but the only option Digg had unless they wanted to monitor all stories and have them go through an editorial process. I hope it works out for the best.

The Road to Ruin: How Grand Theft Auto Hit the Skids

rockstar.jpgRockstar Games history is the kind of tale you’d expect to hear about an up and coming band, complete with pitfalls and successes on the way to making it big. The name really does fit them.

WIRED‘s Dave Kushner takes a deeper look into the rise and fall of Rockstar this month. It might seem ludicrous to claim the company is sliding now unless you consider the last 3 games they’ve release have sold poorly, and they’re in such financial trouble even a million selling Manhunt 2 on Wii may not save them. Hot Coffee can still be enjoyed, but backdated stock options could close the doors for good.

Whatever the case, its a good read about a group of developers who got more than they bargained for when they wanted to turn games into controversial social commentary. Read on…

How To Be A Better Gamer

Courtesy the good folks at Video Gaiden, a video game show on BBC Scotland. Rab leads a rant on gamer stereotypes, the truth behind them, and what you can do to break them.

Did you know BBC Scotland had a video game show? Its quite good, and you can find many segments online. I don’t suppose a US channel would step up to import something like this, or maybe show it on BBC America?

Burnout: Paradise

Criterion and EA have just revealed the title for the Burnout 5, Paradise. The above trailer shows very little, in fact the crashes the series is known and loved for are nonexistant. Wake me when something interesting happens.

Burnout Paradise will be out this winter on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Press Release follows…

Geometry Wars All Acheivements In One Game

I love me some Geometry Wars. At only $5, its the best value of any game on Xbox Live Arcade, and the intense gameplay makes for a quick time killer to hours long repeat attempts to best a high score.

GameTrailers user Lloyd1337 has uploaded a video running through all 12 Achievements in one game. Its a little sped up to keep it under 10 minutes, but its pretty easy to tell this guy is a master. He doesn’t even die once until after he’s hit 1.3 million points! And from there he still piles on another 2 million! On their message board Lloyd mentions he needs a new controller “because the thumbsticks on the one I have now are getting worn down from all this GW” Outstanding work.

Superman: Doomsday Trailer

Good News: Superman looks like he did in JLU!
Bad News: Superman looks like he did in JLU!

I thought we were getting treated to some switch-up in the art style to go with these direct-to-DVD DC Universe movies. Since these DVDs aren’t part of the old DC animated universe, I woudl’ve liked to see that reflected. Some more comic-like designs would’ve been nice, if it ain’t broke I can’t reasonably expect them to change anything. The one major shocker in this whole thing is a bit of blood on Superman. This was one of those things they NEVER did in the show. Take a look.

Hopefully this will be better than the last few efforts from WB at the DVD market. Brainiac Attacks, The Batman vs The Dracula, and Mystery Of The Batwoman weren’t exactly anything worth writing a blog post to praise.

Whats your favorite home video superhero movie? I felt Batman: Subzero was underrated.
