Korean Halo 3 Commercials

There is no possible way to set these up and have them make sense.

This second one is even better. Starts out slower, but leads up to great action.

Halo 3 Short film: Combat Part 1

The next installment in the live action Halo series, “Combat” show ODSTs (orbital drop shock troopers) warding off a Brute threat and calling in air support. This is the follow up to Arms Race, which was shown at E3.

Metroid Retrospective and Timeline

This is the final segment in GameTrailers Metroid Retrospective, constructing the events of the 10 games in the Metroid series into a timeline and also mentioning the few cameos hero Samus Aran and her enemies have made in other games and media. You can see the entire series here. Its a nice refresher course to prepare for Metroid Prime 3, which has just been released and will be stocked on shelves in stores everywhere this week.

Halo 3 at PAX and Games Convention

Above is the final round of Penny Arcade Expo’s Omegathon, where this year’s contestants faced off on the final build of Halo 3, complete with a new map, Guardian, and lots of new weapons. The second part is embedded after the cut.

Penny Arcade in Wired, New Game Trailer

krahulikholkins.jpg
Don’t get too excited by the photo above. These are not the actors to play Beaker and Dr Bunson Honeydew in a live action Muppet movie. They are Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, the creators of Penny Arcade. This weekend they’re in the middle of the Penny-Arcade Expo in Washington, and they’ve issued a new trailer for their first game.
Its some big news that the game, titled “On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One” will be hitting Xbox 360 in addition to Mac, Linux, and Windows.
Wired Magazine also offers a profile, declaring “This is the story of how two douches from Spokane, Washington, became the most powerful players in the videogame industry.”

Aliens VS Predator 2 Restricted Trailer

I loved Alien. Loved Aliens. Love Predator. But Paul WS Anderson’s mash-up movie was really boring.

Thankfully first time directors Greg and Colin Strause are taking the best they can do with both franchises and turn it into a real gore fest. I’m not sure this trailer isn’t merely spoiling all the best parts, but it at least shows they’re trying and not turning in a weak PG13 non-event like the last one. This is what happens when you let visual effects artists control the movie. One of the female leads even looks like Ellen Ripley, which makes me mad when I think about Sigourney Weaver in that DirecTV commercial.

Happy Birthday Elvis

Today is the birthday of Declan Patrick MacManus, better known to the world as Elvis Costello.

In celebration, Powet presents some of his finest moments as captured on YouTube. I named my cat Veronica, so you know I’m serious.

The legendary performance that got him banned from Saturday Night Live and NBC.

And his triumphant return with the Beastie Boys.

G.I. Joe Movie: Stephen Sommers Directs

cobrareborn.jpg
Paramount Pictures is officially announcing Stephen Sommers as the director of the long anticipated G.I. Joe movie. Variety has the story.

The studio is hiring a writer immediately, and has set a February production start for a summer 2009 release.

The accelerated production schedule began right after Sommers pitched his version of the film to Par chairman-CEO Brad Grey and production prexy Brad Weston on Wednesday evening. He was hired in the room.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce with Hasbro chief operating officer Brian Goldner. Sommers and his Sommers Co. partner Bob Ducsay will also be involved as producers.

IESB has a lead on that writer: Stuart Beattie. He wrote scripts for Collateral and Pirates Of The Carribean.

Well its official now, and if they’re not using any of the existing scripts that have leaked online or been reported on before, we should be fine. Because those scripts suck. I’ve got one here where Cobra Commander is Duke’s childhood buddy and was turned evil by Destro. Yeah.
