The Departed

Saw the trailer for this new Martin Scorsese film “The Departed” the other day. Its a remake of a Hong Kong film Internal Affairs, part of a trilogy of acclaimed thrillers.
Leonard Dicaprio plays an undercover state cop infiltrating the Irish Mob in Boston, led by Jack Nicholson; who is stepping away from comedy for the first time in over a decade(with the exception of “The Pledge” which was terrible). Meanwhile, Matt Damon is a mob ally within the police force, keeping the criminals safe. Also featured are Martin Sheen, Marky Mark Wahlberg, and Alec Baldwin: The Greatest Actor Of All Time.
Scorsese is noted for his crime movies, I’m going to personally look forward to this movie a great deal.

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin dies

1962 – 2006

He was a very brave, and highly entertaining educator who brought his love and fearless repect of animals to millions every week. It is sad that this led to his untimely death, as a Sting Ray barb punctured his chest as he was filming a new documentary off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

Justice League Unlimited limits height

Big Barda, Martian Manhunter, and Deadshot, from the new wave of JLU figures
There are tiny figures of female characters all over this line. Supergirl literally looks like a small girl compared to the giganticly manly Superman. Stargirl wasn’t that big to begin with so being short is expected in the toy.
But not Barda. Barda should be a head taller than J’onn J’onzz instead of barely meeting his oversized green torso.
This is not that Barda lovingly honored by novelist Michael Chabon. This looks like a child in a Barda outfit.

Oh well. The rest of the wave has some pretty good figures, including Vigilante, Sinestro, and an appropriately sized Huntress.

Target will get a 6 pack with an exclusive Doomsday figure in additon to another Batman, Superman, and Wonderwoman. I’m as big a beleiver in the Trinity as anyone, but let them rest, Mattel.

Hasbro HQ Tour for one lucky kid

NBC10 in Providence followed a fortunate young lad named Austin who got to go to toy maker Hasbro’s Headquarters in Pawtucket, RI. He gets to gives his opinion on forthcoming toys, do some product testing and even chat with Transformers Guru Aaron Archer!
Austin is currently up for adoption, and I’d take him in a second if he promises to share his haul.

Stephen Colbert Generators

flamepig.jpg Sacrilegious as it may seem, I actually like the Colbert Report more than The Daily Show now. I’m not putting down Jon Stewart, I like TDS as much as I ever have. I just like the Report better.

So what better way to spread the truthiness than with the webs time honored tradition of image generators?

First up, You’re On Notice! This one allows you to customize up to 10 list items to add to Stephen’s “On Notice” board. Go ahead and fill it up with jerks from usenet, bands you hate, and that guy who porked your girlfriend (or boyfriend).

If for some reason you think there is something more dangerous than Bears, try The ThreatDown Generator. Here you can not only add a headline, but also an image of the threat you’re downing.

It goes without saying that true fans also haunt the Colbert Nation, a site that far surpasses the official one.

Conan’s Emmy Intro

Like a lot of the civilized world, I don’t watch the Emmy Awards. Thankfully, INTER-NET saved host Conan O’brien’s introductory sketch. Conan is heading to the show, and crosses paths with many other TV stars on the way.

Bonus points to whoever selected music for the inclusion of “Police On My Back” by The Clash at the end.
